NFL Pro Bowl Game Thread

NFL Pro Bowl Game Thread

The Pro Bowl is the best the NFL has to offer all wrapped around the worst game — non-game — of the year. Still, last year’s event drew a whopping 5.0 share of the audience which was down from the rip-roaring 6.7 share it pulled in the previous year. The best any fans can hope for is that their team’s star has one good breakout play and that he doesn’t get hurt in the process. The players have decided to tone down the competition… and can you blame them?

The Kansas City Chiefs players named to the Pro Bowl include: quarterback Alex Smith, punter Dustin Colquitt, linebacker/special teamer DJ Alexander, tight end Travis Kelce, cornerback Marcus Peters, strong safety Eric Berry and return specialist Tyreek Hill.  Those last four — Kelce, Peters, Berry and Hill — were named to the starting lineup for the AFC team.

Let the fun begin. Let the prayers begin as well, because we don’t need to see anyone hurt playing what is essentially a pick-up game.

So, what do you like… love… or want to see… in the Pro Bowl?

I’m just hoping to see a few good plays by the red and gold. I understand the risk, but if the players aren’t willing to play hard for the money they are getting paid, they should either get paid more or cancel the pro-bowl. In my opinion, if they’re not playing real football, they shouldn’t get paid at all. Change it to just a meet and greet day between players and fans. Then even the ones in the SB could attend. I bet all the players in college said (before they got NFL contracts) that they would give their all to get $20,000 or what ever the amount is to play one game.

    • mnelson52

With the talent accumulated at every position for the pro bowl, it should actually be a better game than the SB.

      • ladner morse

Should be is the byline of this game. I remember when guys took this game seriously and it was fun to watch.

        • ladner morse

          The Best vs. the Best.

    • ladner morse

Getting paid more? I’ve seen their pay go up quite a bit in my lifetime and while I’m in no way complaining about that, it seems to be the reason many feel like they have more to risk by playing hard.

  • mnelson52

Ballard took the GM job with the Colts. That most likely means Toub will leave to be HC. I don’t know who he will try to take with him if he is indeed going to be the HC.

    • ladner morse

      WHHHHHAAAAAA!!!!! Crying’ like a baby!

Man, Toub was my great hope for replacing Reid. Now… it;s hard to see what the future of the Chiefs might be. If Dorsey leaves the transition to WHOEVER is going to be rough. Just like when any other GM comes in, he likes to get his own guys under him but that usually does; happen until year two of their reign.

The Chiefs need stability but I’d rather that all those people stayed and the Reid would have retired.

      • mnelson52

I agree. Right now I’m concerned about how many could possibly leave with Ballard. I’m almost sure of Toub, and I was hoping also that he would be the one to take over for Reid. I was also hoping that would be soon.

    • Laurels and limitations

I’d be looking for Childress, and possibly Bienemy to leave with him. If you want to start talking scary, just think if he was able to bring along Harris and Thomas.

      • Laurels and limitations

of course, we can only hope that he takes Andy Heck with him.

        • mnelson52

He’s considered to be smart so I don’t see that happening

          • Laurels and limitations

            haha

        • ladner morse

Wish we could take a fan vote to see who leaves…….. 🙂

          • Laurels and limitations

that depends..is the voting only relegated to coaches?

      • mnelson52

Yep I bet he would trade us Andrew Luck for those two…lol

        • Laurels and limitations

          ooh, so tempting.

  • Laurels and limitations

I AM betting that Pagano had better clean up his resume, and soon. House cleaning in Indy is getting ready to commence.

    • mnelson52

Yep. I was wondering what kind of trades could be made. Then I realized after Luck and Hilton, they don’t have anything of trade value.

      • Laurels and limitations

very true, that team is a mess and is especially so in regards to the o-line. I’ve always thought that the GM and Pagano were trying to kill Andy Luck.. maybe the owner has finally had enough of it.

      • Laurels and limitations

DJ has averaged what, like a hundred plus a year? and the only thing keeping DJ out of the HOF is the very significant lack of titles or rings. KC needs a Wagner.

  • Laurels and limitations

DJ56 would have rocked somebodies world by now….LOL, and then here comes Shazier!!

    • mnelson52

Would love to see him in red and gold

      • Laurels and limitations

Both Shazier and Wagner as long as we are wishing.

        • mnelson52

might as well wish for Dak also

          • Laurels and limitations

Does Dak’s o-line come in the deal also? This is getting easy.

          • mnelson52

            haha

    • ladner morse

I think that DJ would have played in this game this year had he not been hurt.

      • Laurels and limitations

he’s both venerable and respected league wide, I think you are correct.

  • mnelson52

That should be a big enough lead to start coasting

  • Laurels and limitations

DJ57 came to play!! What side to side movement!!

  • Laurels and limitations

HAHAHAHAHA!!! that’s absolutely the first thing I have ever seen Von Miller do that I completely agree with.

  • mnelson52

I’m ready to see Rivers a little

    • Laurels and limitations

      they’re called “cricks”.

  • mnelson52

Looks like defenses are trying to step the game up a little

    • Laurels and limitations

Yup, good to see. I think the offense looks at this game a little different than the defenses do..while the offenses understand that they are there for a good, safe, time the defenses see it as an affront. I cannot blame the defenses for playing harder than what is prescribed by the league.

      • mnelson52

Yes and too bad the blitz is a penalty

        • Laurels and limitations

Verrrry true, considering that the major reasons that the d-lines and OLBs that were selected to be there were heavily influenced by blitzing and sacks success.

          • mnelson52

And some of the offensive players are there because of their ability to pick up the blitz and defend it

          • Laurels and limitations

true also. Kinda like being asked to box with one arm tied behind your back.

  • Laurels and limitations

DJ57 is playing like a man possessed. I really like his fire. really. like, really, a lot.

    • mnelson52

he has definitely come to play

      • Laurels and limitations

I wonder if DJ56 has had any influence on this.

        • mnelson52

I don’t know but wouldn’t surprise me. From what I’ve seen tonight, it makes me wonder why he didn’t have more playing time during the season

          • Laurels and limitations

I expect to see some real progression from him this next season, being year three and all.

  • Laurels and limitations

holy crap but Hill is fast.

    • mnelson52

I bet all seeing him for the first time are amazed

      • Laurels and limitations

they have to be, any player that makes other pros look slow is going to turn heads.

Talib is talented but a thug

    • Laurels and limitations

      he’s a douche-bag, but I agree, a talented one.

Kelce was doing “the chop” walking off of the field. Lol, you gotta love it.

    • mnelson52

definitely a character. Bet he would be fun to party with

      • Laurels and limitations

bah, I’d have to be much younger. I’m not even inclined to find out, lol.

        • mnelson52

Know what you mean. I should have said would have been fun instead of would be

Forgot all about it! Didn’t see one play. Oh well, I probably wouldn’t have watched any if I had remembered.
See you mention Hill’s speed, did he do something?
