Chicago to Name Chiefs Matt Nagy Their Next HC

And so it begins. The pilfering of a good Kansas City Chiefs team this offseason will start by having the Chicago Bears name Matt Nagy their next head coach. The Bears have already cut ties with their previous HC, John Fox, and now will name Nagy their new leader.

Best wishes to Matt Nagy on his new post in Chicago.

Now, the Chiefs will begin their search for a new Offensive Coordinator. Any suggestions?

Are these guys a viable organization for news? I saw this tweet earlier about the rumor concerning Sutton but I was waiting for something more concrete.

Really?! I keep checking here, AP, ESPN and this is the first I’ve seen of it. Is it really and truly true????

Andy Reid literally designed a new WC/spread hybrid offense this season that a ton of other teams copied because of how unique and dangerous it was. Multiple national articles were written about it. How people believe this about Andy is utterly beyond me. https://t.co/ZOvcCjZtYb— Seth Keysor (@RealMNchiefsfan) January 8, 2018

I love that Eric Bieniemy stays connected with his RBs on the field.

However, I’d like to see someone else new hired to move into the OC role. Someone from the college ranks would be great. That way, Reid can keep his offense updated and fresh. And… Bieniemy can still do his thing with our RBs… who will need his influence this year.

If Chiefs OC is going to get poached ever two year, I certainly don’t want Bienemy to have the job.

I don’t either, he might be my favorite Kc coach.

Great analysis by Britt Zank over at Arrowhead Addict concerning the mediocre Andy Reid. As Zank points out, if you want mediocrity and Clark Hunt wants to fill the parking lot of Arrowhead with cars on game days, then, keep the 10 games a season of Reid. However, as he noted by many fans from the Philly days, don’t expect the start a game strong, but, then, go into slo-mo methods of Reid to prevail in the all important post season. In fact, Zank suggests having Reid mentor the gun slinging PMII will actually set the career of PMII backwards.

Great work by Zank and even though the vote to retain Reid by fans over at AP runs into over two thirds saying to keep him, I don’t mind ending up in the minority on this very important issue. The rot begins at the head as an old adage from the Russians says and the rot with the Chiefs begins with none other than Andy Reid. Dump him, bring him someone more akin to the young HC of the Rams and begin anew.

MOAR fuel for the flame, 538 is the shiznit that all contenders pretend to be…it’s time for a change and I seriously doubt if a lot of this wasn’t orchestrated by Reid. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/why-coaches-and-qbs-should-divorce-after-five-years-of-not-winning/

    • Jeff Morton

But then his completion %age might go down. Can’t have that.

      • VIVA LA MAHOMES!!

        Haha, yup….not one bit.

  • Heilios

So we are in full on rebuild mode. I think they are going to trade Smith (which I believe to be a mistake). How much can we fleece Dorsey out of? Maybe a 1st? Lol

    • VIVA LA MAHOMES!!

change(s) in subordinate coaching means a rebuild? I’m not seeing this at all, a changing of the guard more than likely though.

      • Heilios

With Sutton and Nagy gone, Childress retiring and some of the current starters probably leaving (DJ, Hall, Zombo) I picture this as rebuilding. The defense at least. Do you believe they will trade Smith?

        • VIVA LA MAHOMES!!

Yup, I’m actually very fond of the idea if picks can be garnered. Jacksonville and Arizona lead the gamut in being front-runners for Smith’s services though.

I wonder though, I don’t doubt DJ and Hali are gone (not Zombo) why you see this as a rebuilding? I luvs me some DJ but he hasn’t been the Alpha in a long while, that’s Berry’s job even when he is not on the field.

          • Heilios

Zombo can be released and save 2.5 mil with only 166K in dead money. I’d bet they release him for the cap savings. I actually like Zombo and hope he stays around. He is a great rotational player. Peters is in the last year of his rookie contract so I would expect Veach to begin work on his new contract this off-season to avoid the franchise tag. The only reason I was thinking rebuilding mode is the defense will get a new coordinator who would want to put their own touch on the team with their own guys. Same with the offense. It hurts to change both. I wish Nagy the best but I wanted to retain him. Sutton needed to be kicked to the curb with gusto. U would also expect to see Toub leave for Indy shortly

          • VIVA LA MAHOMES!!

Zombo is no starter, but he’s not bad, at all. I’m only seeing a 1.276M cost for his 2018 service, am I missing something? http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/kansas-city-chiefs/frank-zombo-7060/

          • Heilios
          • Heilios

I was just going off of what sportrac had posted. Maybe I was reading it wrong but it looked to me like 2.59 mil saved with 166K dead money

          • VIVA LA MAHOMES!!

He’s only on the books for the 1.276 in 2018 though isn’t he? I’m not sure what the 2.56 memo is….was that pre 2017 or something?

          • Heilios

I thought it looked weird. Maybe he is due roster bonus and workout bonus?

          • VIVA LA MAHOMES!!

naw, he has a 40K workout bonus (stated down below the yearly in fin(er) print). I’m pretty sure that the 2.whatever was a 2017 total if he was cut.

          • Heilios

Hell if they move on from Parker they could save 13 mil with 2 mil dead. Money to be saved everywhere. If we had some better draft capital we may look to retooling the entire defense. Ware West and Hunt are a good trio for rb, we need a better receiving threat than only hill and Conley. Help along the oline would be greatly appreciated. Time to ditch Harris, the experiment is over. Same with Ford. So it looks like we need a lot of help

          • Heilios

Hali is gone. 13 mil saved vs 1.7 dead money. DJ may stay. It costs the same to cut him vs keeping him. Veteran presence with rookies coming in would be a decent option.

          • VIVA LA MAHOMES!!

There is money in a lot of places but it involves moving on from certain crowd favorites, some tears are going to flow I’m sure.

Crazy part about the offensive weapons is that with Veach at the helm, and Mahomes (supposedly) coming up to start we have no real idea who stays and who goes. Harris and Wilson both have a rapport with Mahomes, they might stick…I dunno.

          • Heilios

Shut your mouth about old Stone hand Harris. He needs to go. Mahomes can build a rapport with Kelce

          • VIVA LA MAHOMES!!

Lmbo, maybe Harris just can’t catch soft throws….he had hands of GuLOOOOO on that 60 mph throw via a frozen rope from Mahomes.

          • Heilios

Basically they need to be drilled in. I could see that!

          • VIVA LA MAHOMES!!

or just don’t give him time to think maybe. Reflexes are faster than thought then action. Hell, I don’t know.

          • Chiefly Bacon

Could be. Even people who aren’t good at catching footballs seem to catch them better if you throw for the face.

          • VIVA LA MAHOMES!!

LMAO!!! My point exactly….but in Harris’ defense….that was an over the shoulder catch while in traffic.
