Chiefs Draft Order: Pre-Peters Trade

Since the NFL has announced the Compensatory picks yesterday, many fans may be wondering what picks the Chiefs have prior to the Marcus Peters trade… so we can easily keep track of all the picks they have once the trade details show what other pick(s) they’ll be acquiring. So, here’s a quick view of the Kansas City Chiefs 2018 draft picks in order:

  • 1st Round: ___________ (traded for QB Patrick Mahomes)
  • 2nd Round: 54th overall
  • 3rd Round: 78th overall (from Washington for QB Alex Smith)
  • 3rd Round: 86th overall
  • 4th Round: 122nd overall
  • 5th Round ___________ (traded for OL Cam Erving)
  • 6th Round: 196th overall
  • 6th Round: 209th overall
  • 7th Round: ___________ (traded for CB Kenneth Acker)

So far, the Chiefs have 6 picks. They could end up with a couple more after the compensation for Marcus Peters is announced. Personally, I’m hoping that a player is part of the deal. A player plus a high draft pick. Anything else would make what already appears like a bad deal… even “badderer.”

One of the reasons that the announcement date for compensatory picks was moved up to late February was because comp-picks are now trade-able and the teams will have more time to arrange trades. Since trading of draft picks is on the rise, it makes sense that there will be more trades to come long before draft day arrives… and there’s a good chance the Chiefs will be involved in those trades… especially considering Brett Veach’s penchant to pan-handle. What do you think? Do you like this trade-crazed environment that seems to be developing between GMs… or not?
