Chiefs: Intriguing Takes

Sometimes the way other express themselves about the Kansas City Chiefs can say what you’re already thinking best. Sometimes, you’re in the hospital dragging everyone down with you because you wish you had time to write but all you can do is… _ _ _ _ _ย  (ditch, ditch, ditch… rhymes with ditch but starts with a B).

BTW, if I didn’t tell ya… “I love you guys.” Don’t get too excited, it probably just the drugs (or real perspective) talking.

So, here are some “Intriguing Takes” for your consideration:

And… finally…

“Would you, could you in a box. Would you, could you with a Fox?” [Not referring to “John” okay, so let’s get that out of the way].

    • ladner morse

In catch number one, Peters is going crazy on the sidelines. Very cool to see him get that excited!

    • Chiefs-Kings-A’s

I have to admit…Smith doesn’t make that TD throw to Hemp.

      • Laurels and limitations

honestly, there might be one throw out of these 5 plays that Smith attempts. Smith is safe where Mahomes is borderline reckless in trusting his arm. I like reckless.

        • ladner morse

Me too and I think it’ll get you to the SB….

        • Chiefs-Kings-A’s

Reckless is great when it is successful….problem with reckless though, is it has been proven (in the NFL) over and over and over again to be costly.

          • Laurels and limitations

or it can overwhelm, reminds me of Favre and his successor. The guys are always looking downfield to make plays with their arms.

          • Laurels and limitations

Oh, and fortune favors the bold..hehe.

          • Chiefs-Kings-A’s

Brother….I hope you’re right and I hope Mahomes ends up confirming (in my mind anyway) that Dorsey was by faaaaaaar the best GM we have had in many decades.

          • Laurels and limitations

I hope so too. All I know is that at least Dorsey gave it the ol’ college try.

          • Chiefs-Kings-A’s

I dug the way he was always looking to upgrade

          • Chiefs-Kings-A’s

I still haven’t forgiven him for Ford though…..that alone was worth firing him over…lol

          • Laurels and limitations

oh, I got a list of things that I disliked Dorsey doing in KC. They are a moot point though once the salary cap situation is remedied.

          • PaulFromNorthMo

Favre threw 508 TD’s in his career, he also threw 336 int’s. I really hope PM is better!

          • freshmeat62

I like the Favre comparison, except I hope Mahomes doesn’t come close to the number of INT’s that Favre had. I think Mahomes sees the field better than Smith. When he leaves the pocket he is still looking downfield, where Smith will (usually) lower his head and take off.

What scares me about Mahomes is the awkward motion he goes thru w/ some of those throws. Some of those have to put tremendous strain on his shoulder. Just hope he doesn’t end up w/ rotator cuff problems.

          • Laurels and limitations

Favre was in an interview where he spoke about Reid possibly messing with his throwing style while they were both with G.B. Favre said it was never about his mechanics, it was about seeing the field.

          • Tazmosis

Yeah, Brett Favre played that way for his entire career. But, his last pass in the NFL was one of those reckless kinda’ “I know what. Instead of running for an easy first down and get a chip shot field goal, I will throw it across my body into TRIPLE coverage. I can do this”, throws. Let’s see what happens with Mahomes in his future with the Chiefs.

          • Laurels and limitations

lol, that’s fair about Favre’s latter throws…but he was also like 60 yrs old, give or take a decade or two.

        • PaulFromNorthMo

Numbers 4 and 1, using the counter on the vid, Smith doesn’t have the arm to even attempt those.

          • Laurels and limitations

nor the ability to read the coverage. I stand by my theory that Smith is a line-of-sight QB. He can see guys open but he can’t see them getting open when the pieces are moving.

          • PaulFromNorthMo

Could very well be. The one “bad” thing, if you will, on the vid was number 2. The TD to DR, PM stared him down the whole way, or so it seems.

          • Laurels and limitations

it looked that way to me also….but if the WR has the guy beat, you can do that.

          • PaulFromNorthMo

            This is true!

      • PaulFromNorthMo

Smith wouldn’t even see Hemp on that play. He would tuck the ball and ran to maybe the 2 before getting tackled.

        • Laurels and limitations

Yeah, I can’t help but think that a lot of the downfield passes this season are due to change in scheme as far as Smith’s running with the ball. I honestly believe that in the past receivers were told to start blocking downfield in lieu of getting open when they saw Smith scramble. lol, I keep remembering Jason Avant just standing all alone 40 yards downfield and Smith STILL not wanting to throw the ball.

          • PaulFromNorthMo

Unless Smith can set his feet and put all he has into the throw, he can’t get a ball 40 yards downfield.

          • Laurels and limitations

yup, just like that “perfect throw” to Hill the other day….Hill had to slow down and adjust for it. The arm just isn’t there.

          • PaulFromNorthMo

But on the other hand, he hit Wilson in stride! just sayin’

          • Laurels and limitations

Maybe, maybe, I still think Hill had to pull up for it. Or is that what you are sayin’?

          • PaulFromNorthMo

No, no. Smith under threw Hill, you’re correct on that one. I meant the one AW dropped.

          • Laurels and limitations

crap, forgot about my eye appt. yesterday, lol.

Why u baggin’ on my boi!?

          • PaulFromNorthMo

Man, I need my eyes checked. I thought that exclamation point was an L. I read that as boil. Which is kinda fitting, lol. That one was 7 points if he catches it.

          • Laurels and limitations

            yup, it was.

        • Chiefs-Kings-A’s

True enough…..Smith is a “live to see another day” kind of quarterback, whereas Mahomes looks like he is going to be a gambler.

          • PaulFromNorthMo

I think the major difference is the confidence each one has in their arm. Smith, not so much. Mahomes, maybe too much. But at least the under thrown passes should be limited with PM making the throws.

  • freshmeat62

One thing that stood out to me that I liked was that Robinson was a favorite target. ‘Mahomes to Robinson’ has a nice ring to it. Could that be the next great ‘battery’ in football?

    • ladner morse

      “Here’s to you,
      Mahomes-to-Robinson,
Jesus loves you more than you will know,
      Wo, wo, wo.”

      • Chiefs-Kings-A’s

Hahaha…..I didn’t get this at first.
It’s still early in Ca. ๐Ÿ˜€

I’m going to have that song stuck in my head the rest of the day now

        • Laurels and limitations

          wait, that’s a song?

          *snicker snicker*

    • Chiefs-Kings-A’s

If he could find Robinson open like that, imagine the Mahomes/Hill connection.

      • ladner morse

That’s one of the reasons I thought Robinson would have a breakout year this year.

Maybe he’ll have a breakout year … in this game. ๐Ÿ˜‰

        • Chiefs-Kings-A’s

In Robinson’s defense though…..he was Mahomes #1, but he doesn’t see those deep routes when the starters are out there.

          • Laurels and limitations

yup, in PSGs we saw tons of deep-routes by guys that are not even on the starting squad at this time.

friendly service bulletin: I HATE WINTER!!!!!

    • PaulFromNorthMo

I don’t mind winter, I just hate the cold.

    • freshmeat62

It all depends on location, location, location! Now winter on the Gulf of Siam was pretty nice. Of course the weather was no different on Christmas and New Years than it was for the 4th of July…temp and humidity both in the 90’s.

      • Laurels and limitations

Location, you are absolutely right!!..the Caribbean sounds nice, lol.

        • Chiefs-Kings-A’s

I took a cruise once from California to Hawaii in February……The seas were calm and the weather was warm.

          • Laurels and limitations

we went on a cruise a few years back…so much fun.

      • PaulFromNorthMo

This is true, I spent several years in South Florida in the 80’s. Winter wasn’t at all bad there.

        • Chiefs-Kings-A’s

Just my opinion of course, but I lived in Florida for a month once and that is by far the nastiest place I have ever seen in the United States.

          • Laurels and limitations

Corpus Christie, Texas. The gulf looks like a damn floating garbage dump. To this day I can’t imagine why anyone would get in that nasty-ass water.

          • PaulFromNorthMo

I don’t care for the east side at all. I lived on the Gulf side, two different worlds.

          • freshmeat62

Have to agree w/ Paul, close to the Gulf the temp is tolerable. Go inland a few miles and it gets hot. We took grandkids to Disney a few years ago, and I think that has to be the gateway to hell. Never was so hot in my life!

    • Chiefs-Kings-A’s

It is still T-shirt weather out here in California after 10 AM. ๐Ÿ˜€

      • PaulFromNorthMo

SHUT UP!! It’s supposed to almost make it up to freezing here today.

        • Chiefs-Kings-A’s

          LMAO!!
          Yikes!

      • Laurels and limitations

I am truly jealous…it’s like 10 damn degrees here.

        • Chiefs-Kings-A’s

Then again, The downside is, I have to live with Californians.

          • PaulFromNorthMo

            But, but……aren’t you a Californian?

          • Chiefs-Kings-A’s

Yeah….. but I have always been kind of a fish out of water in this place.
I lived in a small town in north west corner of Louisiana for about six years from the age of 17 to 22…..SPOLT ME!

          • Chiefs-Kings-A’s

^ that’s “spoiled me” in southern talk. ๐Ÿ˜€

I just spit a little coffee out my nose on that one!

          • Laurels and limitations

“Bubbabonics” is truly one of the greatest words I have ever heard.

          • PaulFromNorthMo

Yep, it should be in every dickshunary!

          • Chiefs-Kings-A’s

            Lol

          • Laurels and limitations

went to Louisiana for training once….came back with about 4 less pints of blood due to the damn state bird down there.

          • PaulFromNorthMo

It’s amazing how bad mosquitoes can be in different places. In Florida, they fought them with airplanes, literally. My brother lives in Minnesota, I’ve been camping up there and mistook a couple of them for eagles.

          • Laurels and limitations

Minnesota!? No wonder you are cold. The only place so damn miserably cold that the eskimos moved North from it.

          • PaulFromNorthMo

No kidding. My brother loves to fish. He has one of those ice houses that he just hooks up behind his truck and pulls it out onto a lake. Supposedly it’s save to drive on if the ice is 10 inches thick. He has been trying to get me to go up there in the winter to fish for the past 30 years. I might have to give in and go sometime.

          • Laurels and limitations

I like fish to, but there is not a single fish in the world that I am going after that would justify hanging out in 2 degree weather, lol.

          • Laurels and limitations

haha, there IS that. People often talk about how they wish the weather was better here…I always say…then the damn kalifornians would be movin’ here.

@honeythunder14 Ready For Fam To Have A Breakout Game On Sunday— Nigel Talton (@NoStressTalton) December 28, 2017

    • Chiefs-Kings-A’s

Last I heard, Smith was the only one who will not start Sunday, unless I missed something.

      • Laurels and limitations

I’m just making a very uneducated guess in that mainly the starters will sit. Reid has already talked about Ehinger and others playing.

      • PaulFromNorthMo

The only one official so far, but I think L&L is right, there will be others. Ehinger is supposed to start at LG so LDT might sit. Maybe Erving starts at LT. I wouldn’t be surprised if Kelce sits, but that’s just a guess.

    • PaulFromNorthMo

I kinda hope Hill plays, at least a half.

      • Laurels and limitations

        Whet the appetite a bit?

        • PaulFromNorthMo

Yep, one or two bombs should work.

          • Laurels and limitations

Hill had better get a quick check-up from his cardiologist. That’s going to be a lot of running to keep up with Mahomes’ arm.

          • PaulFromNorthMo

Hahaha, but I think Hill likes those routes if he gets the ball.

          • Laurels and limitations

I’m just worried about plantar fasciitis from that cold ground in Denver. Could be brutal.

          • PaulFromNorthMo

I looked at the weather in Denver yesterday. If I saw it right, it’s supposed to be in the 50’s this week but cool down Sunday with a high in the 30’s.

          • Laurels and limitations

stinkin’ jerks….it’s supposed to be like 20 something here.

  • Laurels and limitations

Throw the ball Mahomes…throw the ball. Edit, sorry.

@Chiefs have given up just 12pts off of turnovers this year which is fewest in NFL, as Adam Sandler would say ๐ŸŽถโ€not to shabbyโ€- @Broncos have given up a league high 133.— Kendall Gammon (@KendallGammon) December 28, 2017

  • Chiefs-Kings-A’s

I’m excited about Sunday….. just in case there’s any confusion, I am 100 percent hoping Mahomes rips Denver a new Ahole……. regardless of what I have joked about here, I do not want to ever have to say I told you so.
I am a Smith fan and I would love to see him finish out his contract here, but our Situation wont allow that and I have come to grips with the inevitable next phase.
I understand the dangers, but I would love to see Mahomes warded starters for the first half.

    • Laurels and limitations

Well, I for one, have never felt that your heart was in the wrong place….just that you were wrong, period, lol. J/k, j/k.

    • PaulFromNorthMo

But on the upside, he’ll get the starters all next season!

    • tm1946

no problem if Mahomes did but what would that say about Reid, the 2017 plan, and the entire season…. would not that say how incompetent we were for 16 games, even with the wins?…. if Mahomes was that good?

      • PaulFromNorthMo

I don’t think so, Mahomes, or any other rookie QB, is better off sitting and learning behind a quality starter for a year. It was just in the plans.

  • Laurels and limitations

See !? It IS Mahomes time, Smith doesn’t even LIKE it in KC…

Alex Smith's splits in 2017: – HOME: 7.4 Y/A, 8 TDs, 2 INTs, 93.1 rating – ROAD: 8.7 Y/A, 18 TDs, 3 INTs, 118.0 ratingI'd actually rather Smith and the Chiefs play the Steelers and Patriots on the road in the playoffs.— Gary McKenzie (@Super_G_Chiefs) December 28, 2017

    • PaulFromNorthMo

      That’s just weird! lol

      • Laurels and limitations

Isn’t that nuts? I got nothin’.

        • Chiefs-Kings-A’s

The team as a whole gets more motivated on the road, I believe they get lazy at home

          • Laurels and limitations

            Looks exactly that way!

      • Chiefs-Kings-A’s

I got in an argument with Dominic over at AA last year about this, I think the team preps better for the road…..I think they get lazy at home thinking they always got this.

        • PaulFromNorthMo

          Could be, could be.

        • Laurels and limitations

The good news is… I have no vents in my heart with an infection attached to those little doorways. So, I most likely get to go home tomorrow but will have to do 4 to 6 weeks of antibiotics designed to take out this infection..

Home games worry me. AS11 does seem to show up on the road more frequently. Indy playoff game 2 (?) years ago vs. Pitt game last year. The Buf and Mia like games at Arrowhead mid to late-season have always worried me when I see them on the sched for that reason.

      • Laurels and limitations

What was the stat I was reading the other day? Something along the lines of KC not allowing more than 20 pts. at any home games this season or something like that. The problem is that there was a spell there that KC’s offense didn’t like to show up to home-games. Let’s hope the last three home games solved that.

        • Laurels and limitations

yup. When you look at universities it is easy to see that the respective schools have more invested in playing fields, stadiums, etc. than they do dormitories and educational facilities. The souls of Universities have been owned by the devil for decades.

      • Laurels and limitations

Alex has already elevated himself above those two in my eyes. But here’s the thing, he is just barely above Grbac when it comes to the playoffs. Grbac always choked, hard, when it came to high pressure situations and I rate Alex’s dumping off or taking sacks in similar situations just barely above the King of Choke (Grbac’s new title I just anointed him with).

I do believe that Alex can produce in situations like that if pushed, but I don’t know if he can maintain being aggressive for a prolonged time.

        • Jeff Morton

Add the regular seasons and the amazingly consistent Schwartz has played in all 6,284 snaps taken by his offense over his 95-game NFL career.”

    Do you rest him?
Everyone is different, but I know that streak would be important to me.
