Chiefs Prove Nothing In Seattle

Now that we’re done with preseason game three, a game in which the starters were supposed to play 3 whole quarters, it didn’t really matter because outside of three players, no one stood out in a positive way.

CB Kenneth Acker, who was playing with the third team mostly, played light’s out coverage and deserves to not be mentioned with the rest of the team as stinkers.

When Spencer Ware went down with a knee injury in the opening drive of the game, rookie Kareem Hunt stepped in and stepped up. While I hope he is able to handle the starting RB role in the offense, the Chiefs need a bigger back who can handle the ramming requirements of Reid’s scheme. Here’s what we know so far about Ware:

While I hope that RB Spencer Ware is back and 100% asap, this came out about Kareem Hunt just yesterday:

De’Anthony Thomas made a couple of great moves and returned a kickoff for a TD. That was probably the Chiefs singular moment of elation.

Beyond those three, it’s hard to think of two players who had good games. Ross Travis made a couple of good catches in the third quarter and I thought it was interesting that Gavin Escobar was playing with the third team in the fourth quarter while Travis was with the twos… who knows if that’s Reid tipping his hand about who is sticking on the 53 or not when it comes to the tight ends.

The defense did not look like the defense is going to look (I hope) because there was no Eric Berry and no Justin Houston. Still, Frank Zombo wasn’t very good and starter Dee Ford wasn’t better than Frank Zombo. The defense allowed 149 yards rushing… even though this was a preseason game… tells the real and pitiful story of this evening.

Alex Smith has been nothing but consistently hot this offseason but on this night, he was the worst of all three Chiefs QBs… and the other two weren’t that good either. Smith went 7/17 for 44 yards passing. I’m sure you don’t need to read that a second time to understand that it’s not very good. Patrick Mahomes, the wonder-kid, was only 8/15 for 70 yards. Tyler Bray looked like his passes had the most zip on them and was 4/6 for 54 yards. In the end, this offense looked anemic and they could not produce a touchdown. I’ll repeat that… THEY COULD NOT PRODUCE A TOUCHDOWN. The only TD came on a kickoff return by De’Anthony Thomas.

I usually ask you what you think. But, I’m pretty sure I already know. Oh, go ahead and rant…………
