Chiefs Roster: What Are They Going To Do With These Four?

The Kansas City Chiefs have plenty of decisions to make by this coming Saturday. Never mind the fact that they’re about to make a huge impact on 47 players lives by cutting them, but there are players who have worked their way up the ranks so that they could make the 53 man roster and live out their dreams. What you have to wonder about is those players who appear to have made an impact but might just find themselves on the outside looking in… again. I’m talking about a player like WR Marcus Kemp.

The 6-foot-4 inch, 200 lb. wideout played his college ball at Hawaii and had 73 for 1,100 yards in 2016. He gained 2,570 yards for his career there to go with 13 TDs. Kemp was signed K.C. on May 6 as a UDFA. He likely wasn’t drafted because he has 4.54 40 speed but he’s already got a connection with Patrick Mahomes and could be seen daily catches his darts.

In the Chiefs preseason games, Marcus Kemp has made an impact on special teams and made a huge and memorable hit on a kickoff coverage tackle. It’s the kind of hit that sticks in people’s minds and I’m sure Kemp is hoping that play is sticking in the minds of the coaches as the ready themselves to make the cuts this weekend.

I’m also wondering what the Chiefs are going to do with OL swing man Jah Reid. Reid has exactly lit it up this preseason and he may be facing a number’s game in the offensive line. With Bryan Wiztmann being signed to an extended contract and then inserting him into the starting lineup at left guard, it appears he’s a lock to make the final 53. Zach Fulton has done a good job this preseason as well as moving around to every position along the line. So, it would appear that he’s safe because he can also play the center position. Parker Ehinger’s return last week creates a competition at left guard and since Parker was a starter last year, and only a second year player, it would seem that he has a place locked up on the roster too. Unless the Chiefs are planning on keeping 8 offensive linemen, Jah Reid may not be sticking around pas this Saturday.

Tamba Hali has been on the roster for what seems like forever but this past month has been strange. Hali lit into his coach and teammates the week before training camp. He wanted to know why he wasn’t given more snaps vs. the Steelers in the playoff loss and he wanted to know why some of his team mates weren’t at OTAs. Suddenly, Training Camp begins but we’ve seen neither hide nor hair of Hali.

I’m also beginning to wonder if the Chiefs are going to keep extra tight ends? Kelce and now Harris appear to be locks. However, with Harris facing a suspension of some kind, it may be that Reid and his cohorts will be keeping both Gavin Escobar and Ross Travis for the time being. That would leave Orson Charles out. Or, to the practice squad. Charles has made some good catches and it’s hard to think they’re going to let a young and talented TE walk.

Who are you wondering about whether or not they’re going to survive this weekend?
