Chiefs Wide Receivers Are 28th Best?

That should have read… the Chiefs wide receivers are the 5th worst in the NFL. Wow, that’s not great is it? I don’t necessarily agree with it but, it’s someone’s opinion. Whose opinion is it? That honor would go to our esteemed friends at Pro Football Focus (PFF).

In a piece written by Gordon McGuinness called, Ranking All 32 Wide Receiving Corps, a piece that I found in my inbox yesterday morning, Pro Football Focus has ranked all wide receiving groups in the entire league. It includes wideouts and tight ends. So guess where the Chiefs ranked? 28th! That’s right, near the bottom of the heap. Well, that’s what they think anyway.

Here are the results of their rankings:

What I’ve done here is highlight all the AFC West teams in red. Also, the rest of the Chiefs opponents is 2016 are highlighted in blue. There’s been much talk about the defensive backfield this offseason… and we may be about to discuss that group even more since it looks like Eric Berry and the Chiefs will not be coming to a contract agreement by the deadline tomorrow. So, I thought it might be important to see who they’ll be facing. Going up against only two of the top ten wide receiving corps in the first half of the season should give them time to jell.

I’m not sure how you can rank the Chiefs wide receiving corp as low as he’s done here when it includes both Jeremy Maclin and Travis Kelce. Gordon McGuinness lists all receivers, the complete depth chart for every team. However, it looks like he may be giving too much weight to third and fourth wide receivers or players that sometime see the field very little.

It has been evident that the Kansas City Chiefs have needed help at wide receiver and that’s the reason for the additions this offseason. I expect, by the end of this year, that the Chiefs will be much improved in this area.

What do you think? Should the Chiefs really be in the bottom 5? I think not.
