Eagles Win: Vicarious Football Could Hardly Get Any Better

In the NFC Championship game, the Minnesota Viking drove the field with the first possession of the game and scored on a broken coverage pass. 7-0 Vikes. From the point forward is was all Eagles and it could hardly be a more exciting game for Kansas City Chiefs fans, unless it was the Kansas City Chiefs on the field. In a sense, it was. The Eagles Head Coach Doug Pedersen spent years as the Chiefs Offensive Coordinator. The Eagles quarterback Nick Foles started a game for the Chiefs last season. Teh Center for the Eagles is Jason Kelce, the big brother of the Chiefs all-star tight end, Travis Kelce.

Back to the game: after failing on their first drive, Philly handed the ball back over to Minnesota. Case Keenum, the Vikes QB quickly threw an INT to the Eagles CB Patrick Robinson who danced his way for 6 and the momentum never changed.

The Eagles backup QB Nick Foles went 26-for33 with 352 yards with 3 TDs and zero INTs. You might think the Eagles fans were surprised to see Foles perform that way but in 2013 he was 8-and-2 as a starter for the Eagles throwing 2,891 yards in 10 games with a 119.2 Rating for the year.

Nick Foles performance doesn’t surprise me either. Six years ago, when Foles was a rookie prospect, I wrote a piece called, “K.C. Chiefs Prospect: Nick Foles” in which I stated,

“… it never appears that he loses sight of his intended receivers. He moves well in the pocket, sees the whole field well and although his 40 time is not going to blow you down, he does what many good pocket passers do, they stay alive until they can get the pass off.”

Now, Nick Foles will be the QB of record as the Eagles take on the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII. Regardless of what happens in the Super Bowl, Nick Foles stock has gone sky high and he’ll have his choice of teams to go to this offseason.

The New England Patriots hold on to win another trip to the Super Bowl

On the flip side of this Super Bowl journey is the game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the New England Patriots. I’m not going to break this game down except to say, this is the 8th time in the past 17 years that the New England Patriots have been in the Super Bowl. Those who claim that “parity” has a firm grip on the NFL need to take into account the performance of the Pats over that time span.

Personally, I’ve had enough of it. Some will say that dynasties are good for the league but I would think that only holds true if: A) you’re a fan of that team, or B) you’re a league official who thinks that those team make the Super Bowl better with their presence.

What do you think? Are you looking forward to another Super Bowl with you-know-who representing the Lamar Hunt Trophy again?
