K.C. Chiefs and the Saturday Sum Up! 2-16-18

Gentle jerkwads, lend me your ears. Welcome back! Laddie hasn’t fired me yet (of course I’m an unpaid peasant who should have been shown the door months ago) so you are stuck with me for another week. Lucky you! With this streak of good luck you should consider picking up a few mega millions tickets. ArrowheadOne and its affiliates shall retain all winnings of site visitors. Visitors are hereby waiving their right to any and all earnings and winnings throughout the calendar year on any day ending with the letter y. Now this week has had a few notable bits of news that we could rehash here. So buckle up buckaroos, here is your Saturday Sum Up!

Amerson Ahoy!

According to Ian Rapoport the Kansas City Chiefs have signed free agent CB David Amerson to a 1 year contract. His price you may ask? Close to 6 million is what the Rapoport is saying. Amerson was originally drafted by the Washington Redskins in the second round of the 2013 draft number 51 overall. Amerson spent 3 years with the Redskins and then found a home with the hated Oakland Raiders. In 2016 he had played well enough to earn a four year contract worth 35 million dollars and with 17 1/2 million guaranteed. With him named the starting cornerback opposite former Chief Sean Smith by then head coach Jack Del Rio everything seemed to be on the up and up for the veteran defensive back. However David suffered a foot injury and would not see the field for the rest of the season. With him missing so much time and a new head coach coming in the Raiders must have felt they could move on from the vet. Oakland officially released him on February 5th. In comes Brett Veach. With the Alex Smith trade that has netted the Chiefs millions in cap space and the highest rated slot corner Kendall Fuller, Veach has shown that he was not satisfied with the product on the field last year. Thank God for that. The backfield was atrocious. Anyone thrown to the wolves opposite Marcus Peters was torched on a regular basis. Seeing this obvious deficiency our gm has made an attempt to remedy the situation. With Amerson brought in on a fairly cheap 1 year contract we get two things. One, we take away someone who was last year a starting corner for a divisional rival and two we upgrade an area of obvious need. Either Amerson returns to form that netted him a decent contract before his injury or we can walk away after a year with no consequences. Seems like a win-win to me.

DJ Goes Away

We all knew it had to come to an end. That doesn’t make it any easier. Longtime Chief and fan favorite Derrick Johnson is on the way out. After years of being one of the few bright spots on a bad Chiefs team Derrick will for the first time in his career test the waters of free agency. 12 years. For 12 years DJ has been a leader on and off the field. With a heir apparent in Ragland and the Kansas City front office pushing for a movement of youth throughout the whole club we will be seeing more of these decisions. Next will be Hali and then the only player left from the dark times known as the Herm Edwards era will be Colquitt (Who could very well be gone by the first game of the season). The tough decision was made easier with the extra cap space cleared by voiding the defensive leader’s contract. DJ will always be one of my favorite Chiefs players and hopefully will return to the team that drafted him as a coach. He has so much knowledge that could be passed on to the next generation of players.

Tantalizing Tid Bits

Kansas City and its ravenous fan base has been named finalist to host the draft in 2018 or 2019. Now I’m not huge into watching the draft past the first day or two but this could be a big boon to the Kansas City area. If it happens then great. If not, well meh.

A.J MaCarron has hit the free market. With AJ being able to test the waters of free agency it would seem that the Alex Smith trade happened just in time. Had Veach waited longer to work his magic fleecing Washington out of a star corner a third round pick and their firstborn child we could be discussing very different results. Not only did Veach make a decision and act on it quickly, he seemed to feel the pressure and was able to get everything in order before the market had any other competition. Great job Brett.

Everyone is advocating for the Kansas City front office to reunite Kyle Fuller with his younger brother. With the recent signing of Amerson I would not hold your breath. Unless you don’t like to breath. If so then go ahead and hold your breath.

This isn’t so much news as just a huge wish from a certain awesome Chiefs fan writer. Please dear God get rid of Harris. Please oh please oh please do it. The experiment has failed. If we were making volcanoes for science class Harris would be the one that was quickly thrown together the night before the due date and spills the vinegar straight out the bottom instead of erupting. Basically Harris is my 8th grade science experiment. I got an F (stupid Mr. Clark, I hated him and his big fat jerk face) so should Harris.

There we have it guys. Let me know how awesome you think I am. Comment below so we can talk about how awesome I am. Also let Laddie know how awesome I am (I need all the help I can get). As always VIVA LA JET SWEEP and GO CHIEFS!
