K.C. Chiefs and the Sunday Sum Up! 7.9.17

Welcome back readers! I know you have been waiting all week to see my literary genius grace the screen of your phone or computer which you may also use for gaming with the best League of Legends boost you can get if you take a look at boosting sites online. This past week we celebrated our nations independence. Hopefully all of you were safe and had a great week with your families and friends. Holidays make me think of how much my family, friends and by extension the Chiefs, mean to me. I know they are just a football team, but since I first saw them play I have felt a connection to the team. I even remember my first game I attended at Arrowhead. It was a loss to the Buccaneers in November of 2008. Tyler Thigpen was quarterbacking the good guys, Dwayne Bowe was still a promising wide receiver in the league and Jamaal Charles ran for over 100 yards. The reason I bring this game up is because it is something special for me.

One of my best memories is a loss. I remember being so upset my brother and I woke up at 4 am to drive to KC and tailgate all morning. Looking back it was probably one of my favorite games I’ve ever attended. It fueled a lifelong passion that I hope to pass on to my own children. Okay, enough reminiscing. Here is what you came for. Here is your Sunday Sum Up!

Management Makes Moves Minus Members

It would appear that the front office of the Chiefs is still able to function without a general manager. This past Thursday it was reported that the team has officially come to terms with linebacker Josh Mauga. Mauga was allowed to test the waters in the free agency market in March. With limited interest around the league he decided to come home and was welcomed back. Having spent the last three seasons with the team and starting in 30 games in that time Josh landed himself on the injured reserve last year. It would appear that he is coming back to the team healthy and ready to work. Mauga will provide veteran depth while our younger guys have time to adapt to the pace of the game. Ramik Wilson and D.J. Alexander will sit behind him on the depth chart.

The signing of Josh makes a couple things known to Chiefs fans. One, even without the upper management settled down we are still able to make some moves albeit minor signings. Two, Reid must not have a whole lot of faith in Wilson and Alexander, instead opting to bring back a veteran presence who was originally thought of as expendable. Mauga does offer a safety net if one of the younger guys does step up and falter. This is probably the most important reason this signing took place. No details have been released disclosing the financials of his new contract but it is reported to be a one year deal. Most likely it is a minimum veteran contract that would offer no risk and high reward. Best case scenario Mauga rides the bench for a year at a minuscule cost while the future of the position shines in the spotlight. Worst case scenario Mauga is made to start every game and we begin our search for a new linebacker again next year. One question that keeps coming to mind in light of this signing is who actually made the deal? Hunt, Reid, random janitor with a knack for making deals? Someone is making decisions. We just have to keep guessing who it really is. I personally think it was the janitor in the big office with a bic pen.

Patrick Needs Paid

In a surprising turn of events Kansas City Chiefs first round (2017/2018) draft pick Patrick Mahomes II still remains unsigned. There are hardly any draft picks around the league who have yet to sign with their respective teams yet the Chiefs have yet to get Mahomes under contract. It has been said this could be because of certain contract details stating if he were to be released the team could recoup some of the money paid to him under his rookie contract. It has to be said that team is approaching the preseason quickly and will want to get all of their draft picks signed and practicing. With the huge investment of picks the Chiefs have in PM2 it would be absurd to not sign the rookie to a deal and see what he has.

The absence of a general manager can not help the situation and Mahomes agent may be trying to exploit the situation to the fullest. With the CBA there is very little that can change in the financials of the contract but it is possible that there is wording that can be put into Mahomes favor. We will most certainly see PM2 signed before the start of the preseason but must prepare for the real possibility of him not being inked to a contract yet and Tyler Bray stepping in. Look for Bray to make the most of the latter scenario and push for a chance to start. Just think if Bray shines and Mahomes shows real talent we could be in an ideal situation with two potential starting quarterbacks. We would be able to move Bray for picks and cash and keep a good starting quarterback. Here’s hoping this happens and we reap the rewards!

Tantalizing Tidbits!

The Kansas City Chiefs have placed safety Marqueston Huff on waivers and signed Steven Terrell. Originally an undrafted free agent, Terrell has bounced around the league starting with the Jaguars then the Texans. He caught on with the Seahawks and has played in 32 games including 16 games in 2016. He will provide valuable depth at a position of strength so don’t expect to see him start any games. You will most likely see him come in on nickel defense and special teams.

Brett Veach is in the lead for the vacant general manager position. Jason LaCanfora tweeted “Based on what I’ve Heard from those involved in Chiefs GM process, won’t be surprised at all if Brett Veach is promoted before the start of camp. Further evidence Chiefs GM change spearheaded by ownership – Andy Reid had little to no role in interviewing process. Let by Hunt/Donovan“. With Reid being quiet in the search Hunt is showing the league that he is making the decisions and will be the one who makes the choice as to who will replace John Dorsey.
