K.C. Chiefs Training Camp Open Thread: Day Five

Just as we had suspected, the 2017 Kansas City Chiefs team is coming into focus. As we hoped, WR Tyreek Hill looks like he’s taken a step up in his involvement in the offense and based on his early elevated level of performance, that would be justified. While we are continuing to witness the development of a quarterback of the future we can see that incumbent QB, Alex Smith, has taken his game to the next level as well. We can say that, at least based upon his high percentage of completion, thus far into Training camp. Justin Houston looks like the JH of old (from 3 years ago) and Travis Kelce looks no less impressive than he did in 2016… so that should have Chiefs fans everywhere excited for the season to begin.

While these are the developments of the Chiefs training camp that we had hoped for… let’s talk about some pleasant surprises.

  • Inside Linebacker Ukeme Eligwe has flashed as well as played consistently good and it has drawn the attention of Special Teams coach Dave Toub who not only singled out his ST player but said, “If he keeps this up, I won’t have him for long” meaning that HC Reid will want to use Eligwe more on defense which will limit his ST reps.
  • 6-foot-3-inch wide receiver Seantavius Jones has been catching everything in sight and it was a positive step to see him make those grabs on Monday with the pads on. It’s especially appealing to watch him use his big body to seal off a defender as he goes up high and makes a catch along the sidelines. If he can break into the rotation he’ll give the Chiefs another weapon and that will be a tremendous help to the offense because they’re needing another playmaker to help open things up.
  • It was said of the Tyreek Hill v Marcus Peters match-up that they could… demand pay-per-view prices… it has truly been that much fun to watch. Peters, in his post-game presser yesterday said that Hill has become one of the best WRs in the NFL and since he (Peters) wants to be the best, he needs to go up against the best in practice… so he has been enjoying the competition. Frankly, Hill has been getting the best of him on a regular basis this training camp.
  • Patrick Mahomes II has not been the only rookie making noise during this training camp. So has Tanoh Kpassagnon. Take a peak at some of his handiwork:
