Patrick Mahomes Gets the Green Light

The mini-series drama is over: Patrick Mahomes gets the green light to start this Sunday in Denver.

Mahomes said, “it’s not very different, I prepare every week like I’m going to start.” He went on to say that Denver has still has a very good defense and that it’s always good to go up against the best.

I would have to agree with Ransom Hawthorne for the most part, that his starting doesn’t mean much. Alex Smith will still be the Chiefs Starter throughout the playoffs.

The biggest questions I have now will be:

1. How much time will the other offensive first team players be given the opportunity to join Mahomes on the field, and,

2. Will the Denver first team defense be given the chance to t-off on the Chiefs rookie QB all day long vs the Chiefs second and third team offensive units?

No matter who will start, or doesn’t it’s still going to be exciting to see Patrick Mahomes taking the field after all the hype and hysteria over his first-round arrival to the Chiefs.

What do you think Chiefs fans? Have fans and the media made too much of Mahomes arrival?

So Denver’s first round QB pick going up against the Chiefs first round QB pick. I wonder who wins this contest? Actually, I don’t wonder at all, lol.

Thank goodness Elway saved Dorsey from himself on the Lynch pick.

      • Calchiefsfan

I forgot about that, lol. Didn’t Elway move up to get Lynch before Dorsey could? Elway, the genius GM, right. Looks like he outsmarted himself on that one. And you’re right, saved us from a potential Dorsey bad move. It couldn’t have turned out better.

        • Now, it’s very possible that th Lynch situation is once again a demo of why these college QBs take time to fit to the NFL level of play, the speed of the game and how to adjust from the shoot ’em up type of offenses. The transition and learning to undo what was wrong with their drops and reads in college, how to handle throwing from the pockt, number of steps in different drops, etc. I think there are enough examples, where maturing and delayed situations where 2-3 years benefited the QB and the team. I mention Rodgers behind Favre and another is Young and Montana. There are more. Sure, some guys don’t need a lot of shift in their play, but those that give NFL education, from playbook, to sideline work to ongoing conversations about plays during the game or during the week truly help the FNG as he readies himself for the “Debut”.

Tossing a young QB immediately into the fray may not be the best approach in other words — it is the most difficult task a QB faces. Then you have the team situationals, the strength of the OL. Does he have an RB that he can switch in plays and have a guy that gets you 4.x yards and not 3 per carry. Or, how about WRs and a go to TE?

Mahomes is in a good situation as understudy to Al Smith. This will truly benefit him. I really would like to see him wait another season before taking the reins but the cap and contract situation will most likely speed that process for 2018. Unless Al gets them to the AFC championship game or the big Bowl. Then it becomes a wisdom situation and whether the team would even consider a new contract for Al Smith.

I don’t think, going back to look at what Lynch did early, the Denver decision at that time was the right one and Lynch was in the wheeling and dealing QBs in Denver and had no steady hand to provide leadership and education for the newcomer. d

Another thought here is all the hype and young guys in their first season showing “remarkable” success and the 2nd season, comes a turndown in performance and observers are saying, well, he is “underperforming” or maybe we were wrong about how good that player really is. Take these examples and recall comments made here the last couple of day about Carr: Dak, Kaep come quickly to mind. Or how about the play of Bortles early. This year he looks very competitent. Even Cam…

There were reports Dorsey really liked Manziel as well.

had some friends who actually knew the guy, said he was real nice. I just like the beer.

… did you ever watch Men In Black?

So, is Blackledge the last QB drafted by KC who won a game, then?

      • Laurels and limitations

Yeah, I think that is what I am seeing. Blackeldge had a 13-11 record as a Chief. He last played for KC in 87 and went 1-1.

That is one ugly list L&L.

I thought Aaron Murray was kinda cute (his wife was for sure)……

I think you probably mean his EX-girlfriend. Yeah, she found greener pastures w/ Eric Hosmer for a while, but I don’t think they’re together any longer either. Too bad (for her) as I see he’s about to sign a $120/mil contract w/ the Padres.

She did traffic on 1 of the TV channels for a while. By the clothes she wore on TV, the best route to work wasn’t the only thing she was selling…WOW!

I think it was Croyle that had the hot wife. Yes I take an interest in the welfare of players families.

      • Laurels and limitations

        isn’t it though? It’s like a who’s who of never-will-bes.

      13th time’s the charm.

It’s amazing how bad a drafter King Carl was.

I think if Mahomes plays well the lines will have an erection for him all year! I think if he plays poorly they will excuse it away and blame probably Ried. Basically, I just want to see how he executes in a real game situation and what that looks like!
