Holy crap, what a great win that was last week. The defense is starting to fall into form, especially against the run. The Chiefs could still use more of a pass rush (have a feeling I’ll be saying this every week until Justin Houston returns), but at least it’s looking as though they won’t get gashed on the ground. If the Chiefs can keep teams one-dimensional, and start to move the ball a little more effectively, I think they’ll be in good shape.

Screen Shot 2016-07-24 at 9.39.35 PM

Speaking of good shape, how about that Derrick Johnson, eh? He is just phenomenal. An all-time Chief. Age hasn’t yet effected his play, and it’s almost as if the guy is getting smarter. Great performance by him last week (as Arrowhead Pride pointed out).

Screen Shot 2016-07-24 at 9.39.35 PM

Also, let’s talk about something that gets me really, really excited. Two things, actually.

Screen Shot 2016-07-24 at 9.39.35 PM

  1. It looks like Jamaal might be ready to go this week versus the Steelers. Now, I’m not certain what his workload will be like, but it doesn’t matter. He’s a weapon, and will remain a weapon until the day he calls it quits. I’m completely convinced of this. The great thing is that he literally has 1100 fewer touches than a guy like Adrian Peterson who seems to be over the hump in terms of his “elite” status. That’s right, 1100 fewer touches than a guy that until this season had been one of, if the the most dominant runners in the game. If the Chiefs can get Jamaal back into a 2010 Thomas Jones-style two-back shared backfield, and let him change the pace, I think the running game could get even better than it’s been. And in case you haven’t noticed, there’s this guy named Spencer Ware who seems like he’d be an incredible fit for this one-two punch.
  2. Justin Houston will be back at some point – If that’s the case, the one glaring weakness on the defense may get cleaned up. Imagine if we keep playing so well in the secondary, fantastically against the run, and we have a legitimate edge rusher that teams will have to worry about. If this is the case, and the offense starts playing better (I really think they will) the Chiefs will be a formidable foe. I see them finishing stronger than they will start, meaning I think the last 8 games will look a lot better than the first eight. This could be a dangerous recipe. A hot team in the second half is the exact team you want to be heading into the playoffs.

Ladies and Gentlemen, this week’s much abbreviated, but still entertaining kick off to your NFL Sunday:

Random Thought #5

Screen Shot 2016-07-24 at 9.39.35 PM

The Jets will start the season just like the Chiefs did last year.

Screen Shot 2016-07-24 at 9.39.35 PM

Yes, they’re going to be 1-5 after the first six games. Really, 1-6 is highly possible, if not probable. And the thing is, they won’t win 10 straight to close out their schedule. No way. That team is bad. Many thought they were going to be a good team this year, but I just don’t see it. After starting 1-2, take a look at their next four games games:

Brutal. Just brutal. And, they looked terrible on Sunday. Not sure any of the next four are winnable for New York.

Surprise Upset of the Week

Screen Shot 2016-07-24 at 9.39.35 PM

Okay, so the Titans let me down. And Mariota did too. But, it’s okay. I’m going to be making 17 of these predictions, I’m bound to miss a few, right?

Screen Shot 2016-07-24 at 9.39.35 PM

On to week four. This week, I’m confident. Buffalo will upset New England at home in a week four jaw-dropper.

Screen Shot 2016-07-24 at 9.39.35 PM

Look, as we know, division games are tough, and the Bills have been through the ringer. Just when you think you have a lock on the schedule, you will lose. I’m taking Rex Ryan in an absolute desperate.

Screen Shot 2016-07-24 at 9.39.35 PM

Sidenote: I have to quit promising you guys stuff. Just know at one point I’m going to blast Pete Prisco. I have to. It’s my destiny.

A funny thing on last week’s Over/Under on total catches by Marshall and Decker

Screen Shot 2016-07-24 at 9.39.35 PM

Just wanted to note, I was way off. Decker and Marshall combined for 4 catches and 58 yards. Chiefs defenders had 6 INTs for 55 yards and a TD.

Sh*t My Dad Will Say

Screen Shot 2016-07-24 at 9.39.35 PM

Normally Dad would be all over the opposing team’s quarterback, and in this particular case, he will no doubt say one of his favorites about Roethlisberger, but we’ll get to that. This week, though, will be a tad different, because Dad drafted Big Ben to his fantasy squad. If, and only if we’re getting blown out through the air, my Dad will look at me, shrug, and say, “well, 2-2 isn’t so bad before the bye. Plus, I’m killing it in fantasy.”

Screen Shot 2016-07-24 at 9.39.35 PM

If the game is close, though, my dad has a go-to regarding Big Ben. You see, he calls Ben Roethlisberger “Ham Head” on a regular basis. And, well, I can’t really argue with the comparison:

Here’s to hoping Ham Head has a second terrible game in a row, gives us a leg up on the AFC tie-breaker, and helps us keep pace with The Donkeys and Faiders respectively.

Have a great Sunday, people. I’ll see you next week.

Fun read. I am hoping Ham Head plays like one. The game is winnable. Need to take their playmakers away and create turnovers to win. If we lose discipline and start getting penalties and/or give the ball away we will lose. It should be too close for that to be survivable.

Last week Philly got a couple of early TDs and early stops on Pitt and if the Chiefs can do the same their chances of winning will go up considerably.

      • Chiefs-Kings-A’s

That’s not the Chiefs MO………their Method of Operation is to stumble out of the gate, make corrections on the run and pray that we have made a game of it by halftime……….because if we are “in it” by halftime, our defense has warmed up by then and will give our anemic offense a fighting chance.

Glad to see Jamaal will see the field in what seems like an eternity. To bad he didn’t double as a pass rusher….kidding of course.
With Ware and West stepping up like they have, I think we might of seen the last of Charles in charge….healthy or not, I think Ware still continues to see the lions share.

Looks like LDT is back and Ehinger may play, although I think Fulton is probably just as good at this point. Point is, the o-line is in pretty good shape this week, and I believe Ware and JC will wear the Steelers defense down. Let the ‘Sherman Tank’ bulldoze some holes. Who am I kidding Reid will never run that much. Wishful thinking I guess! I do expect more from the receivers this week.

Is this the week Hill breaks one? you know it’s going to happen.

I don’t expect much of an outside rush, but the d-line can put some pressure on Roethlisberger. It’s going to take those big guys to bring Big Ben down anyway. Don’t expect anything from Ford. Heck he bounces off of running backs! And he’s gong to take on Roethlisberger? Yeah, right! He can do his ‘box in’ thing. He’s pretty good at that, even when he’s not trying. I have faith that Sutton will come up w/ something to shut down A. Brown.

    Chiefs 24-17

      Let’s hope.

It would be nice to see Reid surprise the other team occasionally with a traditional run. If he came out with a game plan that was run heavy, the opposing D wouldn’t know what to do. On mic’d up we’d be hearing, “OK, that is 12 running plays in a row, this one must be a bubble screen!”.

I think this is the game Maclin gets it together and shows up like he normally does. I also think HIill and Conley have some big contributions (TD, big first down, something like that). If we get some success in the passing game, I think we see a long run broken off by JC or Ware.

If the Steeler D stops the run and breaks up some passes, gaining momentum, I think we have a long day in front of us watching Andy call jet sweeps and bubble screens galore.

Let’s break the Sunday Night Football streak of losses.

I already predicted Hill will return a kick for the game winning TD!!!!!!

Always look forward to The Chop. Lets see Chiefs defense slow roast ham head. Perhaps Hali and Chris Jones can collaborate on some ham sandwiches. This’ll be a tough game, but with Pitt’s back 7 looking more porous than ferrous, I can’t think of a better week to get Jamaal back.

  • mnelson52

This is a strange game to me. I can see it as a close game going either way, and I can see it as a blowout going either way. I would prefer seeing our offense get on track and have a blowout going our way. I don’t foresee Charles getting many touches, but I hope the ones he has will have an impact on the game. Then people will remember why he’s our #1 RB.

  • mnelson52

Is DAT active for todays game?

  • tm1946

Nice write up on Houston. So little said starting to wonder if he still has a pulse…. the silence about him is worrying.

  • maybe it will be Charles in the flat, charles with the screen, Charles with the flood and the a run up the middle for a TD. huh. I am going to be real curious as to how Sutton manages the LBs and up CBs against the run. Is it me, or is it maybe Ford doesn’t have the intellect for the game and that is the problem? Peters is on the cusp; sit him back to pick Big Ben off? Cover with other corners? Berry playing up v the run, single high a lot? Time for Berry to step back to his total form. Real time spin with the brain. So okay, not much up there but the squirrels.

  • Chiefly Bacon

So far your Pats Bills upset prediction is looking pretty money.
