Semi-Live from Arrowhead

After lunch at Q39 (awesome BBQ and great service), then a visit to the WW1 Museum, we have arrived and are in the early stages of tailgating here at the greatest stadium in earth.

Weather is beautiful. A sunny 65 degrees. Winds are perfect. Not chilling us to the bone, but carrying the sweet smells of barbecue across the lots. I have probably gained 5 pounds from the smells alone.

I am here with my two sons, one a guest writer here on Arrowhead One. It is an annual father son trip that I usually have made with only one. Now that they are both old enough we can make it an annual guys weekend.

The fans continue to fill the lot and setup camp for the pregame.

I am pretty sure, if there was a Tailgating SuperBowl, KC would be the dynasty by which all other tailgates would be measured.

Unless you witness the spectacle first hand, you really can’t understand the levels KC fans will go to for an awesome pregame. If they max out the time from gates open to kickoff, it is just 40 hours per year (regular season only, and that is if we don’t have a “home game” in London). That 40 is out of 8,760 possible. Less than .5% of the year.

There are modified and customized vehicles, barbecue pits, bars, tents, games, and seating areas. They choose areas of the parking lot and basically claim them (in a nice way) as where they camp.

To make all of this even better, they are nice fans. They share food and drink with pretty much anyone, even other fans. Pretty cool place.

Time to get back to our tailgate. More to come later, perhaps. But for now, there’s The Rub!

Update:

The sun is down and the lights are on!

Up-Update:

Just got to my seat to watch warmups as the Chiefs take the field.

Up-Up-Update:

First Charger drive a fail. Β Ended with ERic Murray sacking Phillip Rivers.

Now for some Chiefs offense.

Not the best start. Β Ended with that AS11 scramble. Looking like this might start with a defensive battle.

  • YOUR DUTY IS, AS I SEE IT: HELP GET THE WIN. THIS GAME IS THE SAME AS A PLAYOFF GAME. πŸ™‚

This does come down to the Playoff game for the Chiefs. If they fail to win, they may not make the playoffs as a wildcard team.

      • either team loses? They are most likely out. The way the Chiefs should do this, win out and enter the playoffs on a roll. If they don’t? Won’t likely make any difference and a better choice would be play games as if competing for a draft pick spot. Hate to even say that.

      HUAH!

  • berttheclock

Want a nice formula for winning football? Look at what the Lions are doing to the Bears. The Lions have run the ball 14 times for 79 yards, an average per run of 5.6 per carry. Their defense has held the Bears to just 11 carries for 24 yards, which is just over 2 yards per carry. That running by the Lions has set up their passing game effectively.

I really hope that Laddie’s mis-setting above for the countdown clock will not turn it into a version of the Doomsday Clock for the Chiefs.

    • ladner morse

Because the clock is off by 5 minutes???

      • berttheclock

Laddie, it is off by TWO HOURS!

        • ladner morse

Maybe we’re looking at a different clock. it says the game is starting in 46 minutes. Is that not right? (by a 5 minute variation?)

          • berttheclock

Just checked your clock above this thread and it says the game will start in two hours and 44 minutes.

          • ladner morse

            Mine says… 0 hours… and 42 minutes.

Anyone else seeing what Bert is seeing?

Bert… how long since you’ve restarted your browser?

          • berttheclock

Just went out of this site and came back in. Your countdown clock at the top right of the thread still says the game will start in two hours and, now, less than 40 minutes.

          • ladner morse

Hmm… I just checked it out on Safari and Chrome and both say 0 hours and 36 minutes here.

Don’t know what to tell you. Are you using Firefox? Maybe that’s why.

          • berttheclock

            Nope. I have Chrome.

          • ladner morse

Strange. Chrome is the browser I use to do all the editing for ArrowheadOne at WordPress… which is where the clock is set each week using the exact same clock… only we change the dates and times based up what chiefs.com shows as the scheduled time of the game.

Breakfast pizza for dinner and Chiefs for desert. It’s all or nothing, GO CHIEFS!

  • ladner morse

Because Frank is reporting Live from the game… I’m waiting until 7:00 to post the OPEN THREAD… which happens to include a piece called, “The Boom or Bust Game.”

  • berttheclock

Meanwhile, the Lions have put away the Bears on a last minute INT. This may well be the last season of coaching the Bears by John Fox.

  • berttheclock

The pre-game show at NFL Network for this game has just begun.

    • Chiefly Bacon

I’m thankful for Sling. It’s been a boon to cable cutters, like myself, who still want to see every Chiefs game.

      • berttheclock

Yeah, one of the other problems with having to go through NFL Network is having to listen to the East Coast snob, Eisen, who just recently learned that the Chiefs wide outs have, finally, scored a TD.

      • ladner morse

Can you send me some info on that? I’e considered it before. Would like info like cost… what’s needed to hook it up? Where do you buy it? ….

        • berttheclock

Can you believe it. NFL Network just ran a commercial for Game Pass for only…………………

          • ladner morse

            hehehehe

          • berttheclock

In the current NFL, money talks. Look at how many coaches are against TNF, but, the league knows it brings in money, so, they are not going to drop it.

        • Chiefly Bacon

Basic package (Sling orange) includes ESPN and is 20 bucks a month. Just need an internet connection and a device that can run it, phone, roku player, smart TV, computer etc. Next level up (Sling Blue) includes NFL Network. I usually just buy a month when there’s a game on ESPN or NFL network and then cancel it before the month is up and it renews.

          • ladner morse

            Thank you!

  • Heilios

    GO CHIEFS!

  • ladner morse

Hey guys… what time does this piece show until game time at the top of this article?

    • Chiefly Bacon

      26 min

      • ladner morse

        Thanks

        • berttheclock

Mine still shows two hours and counting, but, never mind, the game is nigh.

          • ladner morse

Well, allow me to officially inform you that the game begins in 23 minutes (or so).

So… please don’t wait two more hours to get your Chiefs fix.

          • berttheclock

Hey, I wanted the game for the Chargers to start on your clock and the Chiefs staring on the other time would be up by 20 before the Chargers realized it.

  • Heilios

I’m here ready to get loud!

McQuay III and Reaser are among the inactives for the Chiefs. As well as Ehringer and Bray.

    • ladner morse

      No BRAY!!!!

      NOOOOooooooo!!!!

    • Chiefly Bacon

You can breathe easy, well, you could if Murray wasn’t active.

  • berttheclock

Kind of torn. Which is worse? Watching any commercial with Peyton or Eisen doing Courtyard by Marriot commercials?

  • ladner morse
  • berttheclock

Greg Gumbel and Trent Green with the call coming up.
