Follow @arrowhead_one Tweet         This last weekend some OTAs (Organized Team Activities) kicked off in Kansas City. In one press conference, Andy Reid seemed to be a little unsure if the workouts were mandatory or voluntary. Check out the first 1:15 or so. Well let me clear that up, they were voluntary, so the whole team wasn’t there. These tend to be rookies, players looking for some extra reps to secure a roster spot, and often the starting quarterback.       The Reissue Issue As I…

Follow @arrowhead_one Tweet       As we sit in the limbo of NFL Draft, Mini Camps, Training Camps, and Preseason, I thought we should take a look at what went down in 2016, with regard to injuries. I did limit it to starters that either missed a lot of games completely or missed some games completely, but were obviously playing at way less than 100%.   I was wondering which player will have the biggest impact in 2017. This completely scientific and irrefutable conclusion will take into account their prior…

Follow @arrowhead_one Tweet Now that the draft is over, we have a new roster to ponder. In addition to the draft, the front office has been busy signing some of the undrafted free agent talent too. Right now it appears we have some 78 players on the roster, and as we all know, it needs to be down to 53 (+10 practice squad) by the regular season. So, how many of the 53 positions are really in play?   In the graphics below, I have highlighted the first column of…

Follow @arrowhead_one Tweet   As the obvious follow up to my article last week, I am going to take a look at how our offense is shaping up in the offseason. As I said before, I understand the roster will continue to be shaped based on a number of factors, not the least of which is the draft. Based on the history or Reid and Dorsey, I again expect any upcoming changes from the draft to be largely backups and developmental players. With that being said, let’s take a look at the…

Follow @arrowhead_one Tweet As we approach the draft, there will be many articles written around who should be selected, where do we have needs, where should we upgrade, and many other variations. These are all great ways to slice and dice the roster and available talent to try and identify who should end up on the final 53 man roster. Today I would like to evaluate the team as of year end, based on Pro Football Focus (PFF), Injured Reserve (IR), and career performance. For sake of simplicity, I am…

Follow @arrowhead_one Tweet       30-to-27: A Defensive Battle Won by Special Teams The Sunday Night game featuring the Denver Broncos at home versus the Kansas City Chiefs fully lived up to the expectations of getting flexed on the schedule. Two AFC West rivals, both at 7-3, facing off for what might be the edge needed to make the playoffs or win the division. I haven’t seen a game this good since Game 5 of the 2007-2008 Stanley Cup Finals between the Detroit Red Wings and the Pittsburgh Penguins.…

Anatomy of a Touchdown Preseason Week 4: Tyler Bray to De’Anthony Thomas

Follow @arrowhead_one Tweet I will be up front with everybody; I didn’t think that Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver/return man De’Anthony Thomas should have made the roster. However, he played himself to a spot on this team, and now it’s just a waiting game to see if he can produce in the regular season. However, if he can shine as he had the opportunity to in the preseason, he could truly be the weapon that general manager John Dorsey hoped he’d be when he was drafted in 2014.   While…
