The Lord of the West

Every Saturday morning as you stretch in bed and you rub the sleep from your glossy eyes, you anxiously await for your favorite writer to grace your screen with perfectly written articles and witty commentary. (I am your favorite writer by the way. I know I’m conceited. I would change but it’s just so difficult to make this amount of awesome, any less.) Well luckily for you this Saturday isn’t any different. This week however instead of offering up my latest installment of masterfully written and always accurate predictions for the following week I am going to change things up just a bit. I am going to try to make your day and season just a bit brighter. I would like to spin you a yarn of times long past. When expectations and hopes were high, and the dastardly Broncos were in shambles.

The Four Bands of Warriors

Not long ago there were four bands of warriors. All of which were fighting for dominance of the pitiful wasteland they inhabited. Out of these noble groups one set of heroes emerged. Clad in the red and gold of the land of Kansas City and led by, Andy the Red and John by the Bay of Green, these men throttled the 3 other tribes into submission. The rightful ruler of the land in the West of AFC was crowned and all was right with the world. The previous rulers, the horsemen from the land known as Denver had fallen flat and were overthrown in a vicious battle by the tribe from Kansas City. Over the next year the tribe asserted their dominance over the remaining bands in the west handily defeating the others in battle time and time again.

A Power Struggle Emerged

Alas, this shift in power was not meant to be. A power struggle emerged between the two generals leading the valiant red and gold clan. The generals, deadlocked in their fight for dominance looked for guidance and a final ruling from the Chief of the clan, Clark the Knobel Hunter. As both generals pleaded their dilly-dilly case, Andy the Red wove tales of vast riches and glory that could be had if only the Knobel Hunter would side with him against the John. Enchanted by Andy’s silver tongue John of the Bay of Green was banished from the mighty castle built by the Father Hunter.

With his opposition removed and no one except the Chief to hold him accountable, Andy the Red was free to plan for battles and permanently instill his philosophy of the check down and bubble screen. Clansmen everywhere rejoiced to Andy’s brilliance when his battle plan led by Field General Smith resulted in many vanquished foes. Smith, who had long been overlooked as simply a capable captain, was lauded by scholars everywhere as becoming the most valuable general in all of the land. Sadly something changed and after the destruction of five rival clans, The Warriors of KC fell in battle.

It was expected to lose a battle throughout the season of conquest so the poor management and battle plan was quickly dismissed as a fluke incident. This “fluke” was anything but. Over the next six engagements Field General Smith would fail to lead the group of red and gold warriors to victory, even over far weaker opponents.

Falling on His Sword, Again

Andy the Red was quick to defend his field general and immediately stepped in to accept responsibility for these losses, but his acceptance was not enough. Field General Smith was turned on by the very scholars who so whole heartily approved of his methods, and the tribe that was most likely to fight in the final battle was relegated to insignificance.

Clansmen began to despair, “Woe is me” they would say. “Our tribe has fallen, why oh why would Andy the Red still offer Field General Smith the chance to lead our group in to battle? We have already begun training his replacement. Let Patrick the Second lead our group for the remaining battles. He could not fail us worse than Smith.”

In Defense of Field General Smith

With the call for Smith to be dismissed from his leadership position, Andy the Red could not just sit idly by and allow the rumors and talk of mutiny go on. He would publicly state that his support for Field general Smith is unwavering. He believed Field General Smith would recover his lost power and lead the tribe to victory.

A Call For Patrick the Second

The voice of the masses are calling for Patrick the Second to begin his reign as field general and to that I say no. Smith may yet rebound. For some clansmen I would be seen as a heretic, someone who can not see the changing times, rather I see myself as the one of the last who still hold on to hope. I hold to the hope that Smith will right the wrongs committed and continue the march to the final battle that he so strongly began. Every fiber of my being still holds out the hope that the tribe from KC will be able to recover from the recent setback. The crown for the West is still available to the tribe and with that crown comes a chance. A slim chance, but a chance none the less.

With the crown in the hands of the red and gold Andy the Red will be given the chance to prove to scholars everywhere that the middle of the great war, not the beginning, is the fluke. With the crown of the west properly bestowed we would all but guarantee that the horsemen, the pirates, and lightning to the west of us would be locked from attending the final battle.

Conquering the Despair

So I say to you, brethren, do not despair. Times may be bleak and losses may be high but hold to this knowledge I give to you this day. Stand with me behind our team. Rally behind me in support for our warriors. If we win the Crown of the West we will only further our goals and gain entry to the final battles for the Ring. At the beginning of the post season does it matter that we have lost 5 of 6 battles in the middle? No. Every group fighting will have the exact same record and all previous losses will be forgiven. As long as we make it to the end with a chance to continue our fight we have a chance.

So guys this is what you get when I watch the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy in one week. I swear next week I will find something else to watch. Maybe I can get through the original Star Wars trilogy? Pew-pew!!!
