Week 14: Chiefs Host Raiders OPEN THREAD

Well, it’s come down to this: a bout with the Oakland Raiders for first place. While I would have preferred that the Chiefs run away with the division — like the dish ran away with the spoon — we’ll have to settle for a rigorous episode of Roadrunner, where the Raiders end up dropping an anvil on their own head. I guess I’ve been spending too much time with my grandkids (actually, that’s not possible).

Surprise, surprise, every writer at USAToday is picking the Chiefs in this one. I’m not sure that’s a good sign or not. 6 out of 8 CBSSports writers are going with the Chiefs today too. 6 of 9 SBNation writers are taking the Chiefs.

JustBlogBaby is reporting that the Raiders offensive line will be a key against the Chiefs. If their OL — which is pretty darn good — can keep the pressure off of Derek Carr then they will likely come out on top. Since the Chiefs front 7 have had a problem — because they’re pretty darn bad — rushing the passer this season, plus problems stopping the run, the Chiefs offense must make sure that the Raiders offensive doesn’t score early and often so that they don’t run away with this game. I’ unsure the Chiefs are equipped to make a “come-back” late in the game especially if their defense can’t stop them from converting 3rd downs into first downs.

A lot of Raiders fans are also counting on the absence of Marcus Peter to help the Raiders. A lot. It’s hard to argue with this. Although, they may not be aware that Peters has not been very god this season.

On offense the Chiefs should have success against the Raiders offense which is 23rd against the pass but 11th against the run. So, the Kansas City passing game should take precedence over running the ball. Any time this is the case, head coach Andy Reid seems to plow ahead and attempt to bang heads with the DL of the other team. So, while that appears to be the best way to attack the Raiders D, we’ll have to wait and see if Reid is a changed man or returns to his old habits.

I’m not going to predict this game. Too close to call. How about you? How do you think it turns out?
