Week 17: Chiefs at Broncos – OPEN THREAD

There’s a new sheriff in town. If only for a day. While this game seems to be all about the performance of Patrick Mahomes II, it is also a showdown of sorts between Mahomes and his Denver counterpart, Paxton Lynch. However, this game will be more of a battle between the Broncos defense and the Chiefs quarterback of the near future.

Some fans may be wondering why Patrick Mahomes is projected to become the starter in 2018 and the answer is: it all comes down to cap space… and the value the Chiefs can get for Alex Smith now as opposed to next offseason (which is nothing except a 3rd round compensatory pick the year following that).

Head coach Andy Reid says this is not a “try-out” for Mahomes but merely a chance to get in some NFL snaps. I say hogwash. If Mahomes comes out and looks like Nathan Peterman… I doubt you’ll find the Chiefs shopping Smith this offseason. So, for those of you who are not Patrick Mahomes fans… you should be hoping he pulls-a-Peterman with 5 INTs like he did on November 19 — never mind, I’m sure you already are hoping for the worst.

I will project the Patrick Mahomes does very well and the the Chiefs defensive backfield has multiple picks today. So, if you are hoping for a Mahomes Meltdown with extra cheese… you’ll likely to be highly disappointed today.

I’m going with: Chiefs 28, Broncos 13.
