6 Year Contract Extensions for Reid and Veach – The Kansas City Chiefs have tied up their head coach and general manager for the foreseeable future by handing out contract extensions for the next six years to Andy Reid and Brett Veach.
One Will Get Ya Six
When Brett Veach and Andy Reid were able to get the Chiefs franchise over the NFL’s highest summit this past February, they secured their own legacy in Kansas City sports history and it was seemingly enough to get them each a new contract lasting for the next six years. Tom Pelissero was the first to report it around 7:00 PM CDT, on this the last day of August, 2020.
The Chiefs will now have both Reid and Veach locked up through the 2025 NFL season. By then, Reid will be 67 years old and Veach, 47. While Veach may continue along for the next couple of decades in K.C. there’s no reason to believe Reid will be ready to hang up his sneakers when that time arrives.
At the moment, Andy Reid is ranked sixth on the All Time Winning List of NFL Head Coaches:
If Reid wins 11 games per year for the next ten seasons, he’d be just one game behind George Halas and just 11 behind the all time leader, Don Shula. Of course, no one knows when Bill Belichick will retire, or how he figures into all of this, but he’s now 68 years old.
Clark Hunt’s statement,
“… we’re very lucky to have Brett as part of our organization… he’s done an amazing job over [the] last three years of taking a really good roster and turning it into a championship roster and I think it’s a roster now that’s going to have a chance for multiple years to be a contender for the Super Bowl. He’s done an outstanding job. He works extremely well with Coach Reid, he also has a great rapport with our players, so he’s somebody that we want here for the long term. We tend to not talk about contract extensions until they’re done, but just to suffice it, I’d say that we’re fortunate to have Brett here and hope he’s here a very long time.”
It sure looks like the Chiefs have positioned themselves to #runitback more than once over the next decade. I agree with Charles Goldman at ChiefsWire:
“The plan is to keep this team together, top to bottom, for a very long time. It provides the type of long-term stability that could have this group competing at the highest level for years to come.”
Congratulations are in order for both Andy Reid and Brett Veach as well as all of Chiefs Kingdom! I don’t know about you but, I’m thrilled with this news!
