Do the Chiefs Need a Big Boost?
David Bell
Just when I thought the Chiefs would have a “Best of Times” year, the creek went dry. On the first snap from scrimmage for WR Hollywood Brown, it went awry and Brown was out for the 2024 regular season. He folded his tent up and that was, all she wrote. Next up in the thing that caused tremendous pain in the patoosh, Isiah Pacheco sustains a leg fracture. I think “Pop” will be out for 8 – 10 weeks total.
It is often rumored that bad things happen in threes. Rashee Rice, the WR who was playing very solid football, suffered a knee injury in a freaky play where our illustrious QB threw a “stoopid” interception. Then, Rashee Rice was trying to get the stop only Patrick got in the way. Down goes the third leg of the stool – Rice may have a torn ACL and that would be a season-ending injury for Rashee — we won’t know the truth about the status because of swelling, but even if it was not a tear, the truth is in the best of circumstance Rice, who is of course ruled out for Week 5, will like miss many more games in the best possibility of recovery and Rehab.

Potential WRs To Acquire For Rashee Rice
Many ArrowheadOne fans have blogged about possible solutions for replacing Rashee Rice. I am not going to address my favorites – USA Today posted Five possibles and if I had my druthers, I would like it to be someone who is an elite pass catcher like DeAndre Hopkins, but cap possibilities likely preclude that possibility. Here are the 7 WRs listed by US Today:
.
- Darius Slayton(Giant)
- Jalen Hyatt (Giants)
- Robert Woods(Texans)
- J.K. Osborne (Patriots)
- Kendrick Bourne(Patriots)
- Amari Cooper(Browns)
- DeAndre Hopkins(Titans)
.
Another author’s take on WRs who might be considered is from Dianna Russini. The question now: Will the Chiefs roll the dice again as they chase a three-peat? Names I’m keeping an eye on:
.
- Amari Cooper, Browns
- Tee Higgins, Bengals
- George Pickens, Steelers
- Christian Kirk, Jaguars
- DeAndre Hopkins, Titans
.
Dianna’s conclusion: “As more teams start to consider selling off assets, this list could get longer. I’ll keep you updated.“ We also know that the Raiders want to trade Davante Adams. That’s another good example. Here’s Russini on Davante Adams:

Who Does Know?
I know this much: Xavier Worthy is fulfilling what I had expected of him and… will improve. Mecole Hardman, Justin Watson, and JuJu Smith-Schuster fill a solid purpose. Skyy Moore does not. I suppose there are practice squad players who might serve a purpose such as Nikko Remigio or Justyn Ross if the Chiefs don’t give a “big bang for the buck” type shot at a big-name WR.
There was a point that there is a reason to hold up the horses by Stephen A. Smith.
.
.
Of course, I am not sure about Smith’s take on this, but I consider what he was writing about with due diligence. No matter how it might turn out, Brett Veach will use Andy Reid and the coaching staff to deliberate what might occur. Right now, the Chiefs will attend to winning Week Five as they play at Arrowhead vs. the New Orleans Saints next Monday evening. There is time to deliberate and decide the best choice to address the next move to be made as they will use the Week Six Bye Week to their advantage… and that’s just next week.

I Am Sure “Daddy Knows Best”
Here, I guess I am choosing a popular icon, alluding to the “Danny Thomas Show” (and Make Room for Daddy) and not Robert Young and his program “Father Knows Best.”

Since we do not know how bad the injury status is for Rashee Rice (yet), I am not sure that he will make another roster appearance in 2024, nor about the post-season. Even if Rice makes it back, which is far from certain, I would opine that it’s very unlikely. In this case, I would like to see a player signed up or traded for… a player who has a skill set that matches that of Rice or better. After all, the goal is to win another Super Bowl.

What if Tyreek Hill Could Make it Happen?
Would you do it?
The Dolphins are facing the Patriots, the Colts, the Cards, the Bills and the Rams over their next five games. Four of those games come before the trade deadline on November 5th at 4:00 PM Eastern Time. The Miami Dolphins are currently 1-and-3.
.
.
Get Nick Wright would make a deal for Hill, and the thought has me thinking about it. I don’t think Miami QB Tua Tagovailoa will cut any mustard and I do not believe he has the brass to make a team like Miami an AFC Champion. Plus, he is missing another start in Week 5 with his continued concussion protocol.
.
.
It appears Tua will miss starting opportunities in weeks 5 through 7, from what I have learned. I do doubt altogether that Tua Tagovailoa is capable of winning a Super Bowl. Especially now.
.
.
The Dolphins backup QB, Tyler Huntley, will earn another start for them in the meantime. Missing more starts is likely the end of Tua’s potential Super Bowl aspirations and I do think his injury status will quickly curtail his playing career.
What if it is trading Hill for a 1st and 3rd-round pick? Could this make a threepeat far more likely? That is a big adventure yet to be born! However, I want another Lombardi — right now!

Travis Kelce finally turned up the burners in week four.

What About the RB Status?
I don’t think that Isiah Pacheco will be available for 8 weeks — maybe in week 10. I do think that if he can make the last five games of the regular season, Pacheco re-emerges from the playing scene, but must be careful and break into game shape.
Having made a solid game of it for Kareem Hunt in his new Red and Gold debut, the Chiefs will finally have a solid duo for the feature back and a solid #2 RB. Could that stand the test of time for an outstanding RB pairing? I’d venture to state that I think this could be a marvelous situation for the Chiefs ground game. We’d still have Steele or he could go to the PS and coming up is Clyde Edwards-Helaire! At this juncture, I think the RB question is essentially resolved while we await Isiah’s return.

Fan View of the Chiefs Defense?
.
Yes, I had written about my magic number of 17 and then adjusted it to 20 about 3 years ago and in either case, it has had a meaningful framework.
.
..
.
DC Steve Spagnuolo has done great work coaching up the defensive personnel. Spags may just get another HC job offer after this season runs its way though. I prefer he opt in for another season with K.C. to remain as the Chiefs DC. I know that one article was written about that possibility not long ago.
.
Dave Merritt and the DBs
Dave Merritt has once again had a magic touch in leading the secondary, despite the loss of L’Jarius Sneed (BTW, not to gloat, but LJ’s team, the Titans, are 1-and-3 right now). I truly admire Merritt’s work.
.
.
.
Merritt has once again adjusted to changes in secondary personnel and Trent McDuffie is turning on the bright lights for the young cornerback. Besides CBs, the Safety group is doing well and is 5 deep.
.
Linebackers – Brendan Daly
The LBs provide the steel to sharpen steel – Nick Bolton, Drue Tranquill, and Leo Chenal once again master a top-notch backer crew with other players also capable of continued excellence. I am not shocked about anything that goes together for the Linebackers.
.
Defensive Linemen – Joe Cullen
With Chris Jones being the master of the pass rush, the Chiefs are serving notice. I’d like to see how quickly DE/DT Charles Omenihu can return to the grass! As far as the defense is concerned at the moment, George Karlaftis is making a huge impact.

To Boost or Not?

Would It be a Big Boost to Ensure Tyreek Hill Joins the Crew?
That idea intrigues me altogether. I hate to get on the Stephen A. Smith band-wagon, but must do so and with some Fervor — Smith tweeted the following (0:40):
.
.
I have supported the Chiefs defense all along.
Would giving up a 1st and 3rd-round pick get the deal done? If Smith is correct, perhaps Smith can re-insert Tyreek Hill and get the big boost. I think that with Tua’s injury history, the addition of Hill might be just what the doctor ordered to win another Super Bowl.
