Chiefs v 49ers Results

It was another one of those games. It was another game where, “If I had told you that…” game, you wouldn’t believe me. If I had told you that Patrick Mahomes wasa going to have a 44.4 rating along with two interceptions, which would now give him two more INTs than TDs on the season… you wouldn’t believe me that the Chiefs won this game.

Well… they did… and it wasn’t even that close of a game.

The reason for this win? It’s likely that the Chiefs running game, and the 49ers lack thereof, was a good reason. K.C. had 184 yards rushing with Kareem Hunt picking up 78 of those. The 49ers had 101 yards rushing overall and their leading rusher, Jordan Mason, had 58 of those.

David Bell often talks about the total number of points the defense gives up and it needs to be less than 21. Well, with the K.C. Defense holding thier offense to 18 points it’s nearly as close to Davi’d old number of 17. As close as it can get. Part of that may be atributed to Time of Possession (ToP). The Chiefs won the ToP battle in this game by more than ten minutes: 35:04 to 24:56.

What may be concerning is the absence of JuJu Smith-Schuster. During the first quarter, JuJu re-aggravated a hamstring injury and was ruled out for the rest of the game. That’s another reason you might not have believed me if I told you he was out for most of this game as well. Another possible injury was to Jaylen Watson who injured his hamstring. He’s having an MRI, but HC Andy Reid said:

I know that Andy Reid is supposed to offer realistic news, but we can certainly hope for better.

The teams in the NFL with the top records include seven teams. One has a perfect record: the Chiefs. Two are 5-and-1 including the previously unbeaten Vikings, who lost yesterday.

To finish out the top seven, four of them have 5-and-2 records with 2 games to be played tonight by the 4-and-2 Ravens v the 4-and-2 Bucs and the 3-and-2 Chargers v the 2-and-4 Cards. Currently, the Chiefs are the only unbeaten team in the NFL. They fly to Vegas next weekend to take on the division rival, 2-and-5, Raiders.

With the Chiefs now allowing less than 18 points per game (17.166) the whole unit deserves to be noted for their terrific performance. The main reason for the Chiefs having a perfect 6-and-0 record? The Defense. The Ravens have a high powered offense and the Chiefs D held them to 20 points. Same goes for the Falcons, Chargers, Saints and 49ers offenses and the Chiefs D held them all under an average of 15 PPG (14.8 to be exact). Here’s what RGIII had to say about the game afterwords:

49ers QB had 212 yards passing in this game going 17 of 41 with 3 INTs, with a 36.7 rating.

It would be hard to overstate how big the Chiefs going 6-and-0 is. Especially with the schedule they’ve had at the front end of the season. The Ravens, the Falcons (in Atlanta) and the Chargers (in LA), with the 49ers (in San Fran.)… this was a scheduling nightmare and the NFL looked like they were trying to trip this team up. But it didn’t work:

Patrick Mahomes may not have had the best overall statistical game, but his Magic moves — when needed — were right on the money.

What do you think?
