Day 2 of the KansasCity Chiefs rookie camp felt like Day 10 of regular training camp. The intensity of this group of rookie, ex-injured and new players plus the energy for these players coming from the fans is palpable. If you hadn’t hear Derrick Nnadi the Chiefs rookie Nose Tackle, talk about his life, you’ll eventually find out what a quality young man he is. I would say the Chiefs got lucky in drafting him… but GM Brett Veach has shown a penchant for finding these excellent young talents so all I can say is… the future’s so bright, I gotta wear shades.

The mystery of the day became the mystery of the night as cornerback Bashaud Breeland came for a visit to St. Joe and was presumably wined and dined wit the hopes that the Chiefs could sign him. It’s now heading towards midnight on Tuesday evening and there’s still no word on Breeland. His presence in the Chiefs defensive backfield could be huge for this team. When healthy, he’s and excellent corner who not only has the ability to play close man coverage but knock the ball lose from the offensive players he tackles. It was rumored that the Chiefs would do everything in their power to not let let him leave town without signing a contract. Most who cover the Chiefs believed that the restructuring of Spencer Ware’s contract allowed GM Brett Veach the maneuverability he needed to make signing Breeland easier. If the Chiefs do get Bashaud Breeland under contract, here’s a little teaser:
If you’re keeping track of talented wide receivers who are on the Chiefs roster, there’s been a huge turnaround at that position. For many years now, fans have been clamoring for a true #1 WR while the team has been operating with nothing more than a n very good #2 at best. Now, the Chiefs have Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins… who both could be #1s and a host of competitive WRs who could make the roster and serve as very good #2s.
