Chiefs Sign CB Orlando Scandrick

The Kansas City Chiefs have taken action to address their defensive backfield issues by signing cornerback Orlando Scandrick.

The good news mostly has to do with the contract that Scandrick signed because it doesn’t limit their ability to sign other players who may become available between now and the time the season begins:

Scandrick spent his first 9 seasons with the Dallas Cowboys and has 8 career INTs. Dallas released him this offseason preferring to go with younger corners. Scandrick was then signed by the Washington Redskins but with the development of their young corners, Scandrick became expendable as well and ended up walking away with the $1M bonus:

The Chiefs cornerback depth was questionable prior to the time that Steven Nelson suffered a concussion on Friday night in Preseason Game Two. That’s why GM Brett Veach had already met with Bashaud Breeland. With Nelson out for what looks like the remainder of the preseason games, adding a corner was a must whether you think Orlando Scandrick is a good corner or not.

With the ongoing absence of Safeties Eric Berry and the rehab of Daniel Sorensen, plus the release of Robert Golden, you can expect Veach to add another Safety soon although he says they are fine with the Chiefs youngsters at that position.

My preference of course, is for the Chiefs to sign Eric Reid and move past his off-field issues so that they can stabilize a defensive backfield that is an obvious weak link for this team.
