Chiefs Kingdom Round Table
by Laddie Morse
It’s time for the Chiefs Kingdom Round Table where we take a look around the Kingdom and see what people are talking about.
Bucky Brooks Preseason Week 3 Grade
Here’s what Bucky Brooks of NFL.com had to say about Patrick Mahomes performance against the Falcons last Friday evening:
“Kansas City Chiefs: Patrick Mahomes, QB. The second-year gunslinger is a “wow” playmaker, but he’s still a work in progress when it comes to efficiency. Despite a pretty impressive stat line (completed 8 of 12 passes for 138 yards with a touchdown and an interception), Mahomes got away with a few questionable throws that should have been picked off by sticky-handed defenders. Now, he did fire off a 69-yard touchdown throw to Tyreek Hill that was absolutely ridiculous, but the splash play isn’t enough to ignore some of the rough patches in his game. Grade: B-“
If you’re a Chiefs fan you have to begin to wonder if the Patrick Mahomes era will be marked by either a “Splash-and-Crash” game or a “Splash-and-Thrash” game but one way or the other, there will almost always be that “splash” involved. I’m hoping the Alex Smith effect has evened Mahomes out a bit and helped him become a more consistent QB. Until we get into the regular season games, we’re not going to know the answer to this one but for now, it appears that Mahomes could have us on a coaster ride with a splash involved somewhere along the journey.
DWill: The Thrill Is On
If you’ve missed out on my little gif about Darrel Williams mad catch-n-dash here it is again:
#Chiefs RB Darrel Williams was star-ish in Preseason Game 2. Made a difficult catch, a great move to allude defender #1, a face full of hand for defender #2, dishes out more of the same for defender #3, and runs out of bounds, with 1/2 the D in tow.#ChiefsKingdom #ArrowheadOne pic.twitter.com/NjyhPL1s5L

I’m posting it again because it’s gotten more attention on Twitter than anything I’ve ever prepared and posted. Over 300 Chiefs (or Darrel Williams) fans have liked it or re-twitted it and yes, many of them are LSU Tiger fans but heck, 300+ hits from Saturday to Monday… that’s a little cray cray ain’t it? If you’ve been keeping up with Darrel Williams since he became a Chief, then I hope you know that he’s one of those rare finds where he was playing backup to an outstanding RB Derrius Guice (drafted 59th overall by Washington) and although Guice had more rushing yards last year (1,251) than Williams (820) it was Williams who had a clear cut advantage catching the ball with 331 receiving yards to Guice’ 124 yards receiving. From scrimmage, Guice averaged 5.4 yards per touch. Darrel Williams averaged 6.9 yards per touch from scrimmage. I’m crossing my fingers that the Chiefs find a place for him on the final 53 man roster. Oh, I’ve said that before? Yep… and I’m going to keep on saying it and hope someone is paying attention. Not to me… to DWill.
Try and “Riggle” Your Way Out of This One
Rob Riggle is a huge Chiefs fan, if you didn’t already know it, and he recently appeared on the show called, “Undisputed” and boy did he go off on the Chiefs offense… in a good way:
We've got @Kareemhunt7, @tkelce, @cheetah, and @sammywatkins. The potential for our (@Chiefs) offense is off the charts, and the era of @PatrickMahomes5 has begun.

We Chief fans have been wanting more national attention and with Patrick Mahomes in the lead saddle we’re getting it.
Another New 53 Man Roster Prediction
Over at ArrowheadPride, stagdsp has issued his 53 man roster projection for the Chiefs. He listed those players who were “Locks” and he also listed players “On the Bubble” then ends each section with his “Prediction.” So, I’ll just list his predictions below:
- QB Prediction (3): Mahomes, Henne, Litton
- RB Prediction (4): Hunt, Ware, Damien Williams, Darrel Williams
- FB Prediction (1): Sherman
- TE Prediction (3): Kelce, Harris (Amaro), Ellis
- WR Prediction (6): Hill, Watkins, Conley, Robinson, Thomas, Dieter
- OL Prediction (8): Fisher, Erving, Morse, Duvernay-Tardif, Schwartz, Wylie, Witzmann, McKenzie
- DL Prediction (5): Jones, Williams, Nnadi, Bailey, Jenkins
- OLB Prediction (5): Houston, Speaks, Tanoh, Ford, Zombo
- ILB Prediction (5): Ragland, Hitchens, O’Daniel, Eligwe, Niemann
- CB Prediction (6): Fuller, Nelson, Amerson, Smith, Springs, Scandrick
- S Prediction (4): Berry, Watts, Murray, Sorensen [McQuay]
- ST
- PK Prediction (1): Harrison Butker
- LS Prediction (1): James Winchester
- P Prediction (1): Dustin Colquitt
If this is the final 53 then… WR Marcus Kemp will likely never make this team. I think DAT could be at the end of the line but stagdsp has him making the team. Here, ILB Terrance Smith is gone and that would be somewhat shocking if it happens. I think they try to get Ben Niemann on he Practice Squad but we’ll see. What do you think?
Speaking of Ben Niemann…
When players are invited to Training Camp as a UDFA or otherwise, and they end up appearing to perform really well, you have to wonder if they look good because they are good, or they look good because of the mistakes of someone else. Yes, this was a poorly thrown ball, but Niemann makes a good play for the INT then takes it to the house.

There will never be another #56 like Derrick Johnson but… Niemann gives the number it’s full measure of respect on this play.
