Tyrann Mathieu is “The Catalyst”

With most fans wincing and wailing over the loss of long time Kansas City Chiefs hero, Eric Berry, the men in charge, who decided to release Berry in the first place, were hard at work finding another player to sign… and because there is no replacing Eric Berry… you can only hope to sign another player. Which, they did, in the person of Tyrann Mathieu, the best Safety available on the Free Agency market: Tyrann Mathieu is the catalyst, says Brett Veach.

The Kansas City Chiefs General Manager spoke during the media introduction event and said this about Tyrann Mathieu:

“You can acquire as many great players and as many talented players as you like but until you have the catalyst to make it go, things will never work out the way you want them. This was the catalyst we had to have.” — Brett Veach”

Mathieu, played his college ball at LSU and was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in 2013 in the 3rd round at #69 overall, and 6 players after Travis Kelce was drafted. He was named to the league all-rookie team in his first year. Mathieu played for the Cards for five years and made the Pro Bowl in 2015. His being released after 5 years he said was a wake up call for him and he signed a one year deal with the Houston Texans a year ago. He has had 13 INTs, 394 tackles, 4 forced fumbles and he hasn’t missed a game since 2016.

Tyrann Mathieu was thought to be too small for the Pro game when he was coming into the league. He stands at 5-foot-9, and goes 190 lbs. His play, since he’s been in the league, says another thing altogether:

Here’s more on Tyrann Mathieu’s performance from SBNation:

Last year, Mathieu made one of my favorite plays of the year — because it was against the Patriots — which was back in Week One:

Earlier today, Tyrann Mathieu signed a 3 year, $42M contract with the Chiefs, including an average annual salary of $14M. As you can see, he has that same smile that so many players have when they are signing a contract for millions of dollars.

Tyrann Mathieu has a message for everyone, a little video message:

Mathieu also has been present in the community and shares this about his willingness to give back:

I’m thrilled with this signing. What do you think Chiefs fans?….
