Would You? Could You? Chiefs Fans? 5.18.19

Like any other fan at ArrowheadOne, I dream dreams about the Chiefs signing sensational Free Agents and offseason dream drafts coming true simply because I once went parasailing over Puerto Vallarta’s dolphin Bay. I also daydream of new and dominating 43 defensive designs dancing in my head producing a plethora of endless little zeros followed by… more zeros (a Zero this year seems possible, so now… a Zero is my Hero).

Yes, I have spent a lot of time in the land of “What if-ing?” [very different than “What F-ing”]… like, I used to think about… what if the Chiefs had drafted Curtis Martin in 1995 instead of Trezelle Jenkins?  So, let’s do some more wishful thinking.

Would You? Could You? Project the Chiefs to win the Super Bowl this coming seasons? While there are several sporting news outlets (and betting agencies) picking the Chiefs to win-it-all this year, wouldn’t you say it’s a little early for that kind of optimism? I’m not trying to throw some major shade on anyone’s parade here but, as big a Chiefs fan as I am, I’m not ready to say these Chiefs will be world beaters. A team is not just a collection of talented players on a roster. If that was true, I think the Chiefs might have won it all with Priest Holmes, Tony G. and the OL from Heaven leading them all the way to a SB victory. By watching training camp, coming up in two short months, and getting a good handle on the teams overall performance in the preseason games (yes, these game do hold some actual meaning), then I’d be a lot more comfortable saying these Chiefs will win it all. Until then, I can’t say if the defense is going to jell, or if the absence of Tyreek Hill (which is highly likely, at least for 6 games) will have a profoundly negative effect on the outcome of games in 2019. Until then… I’m just loving what Chiefs GM, Brett Veach, is doing this offseason. What do you think? Would you, could you, say that you think the Chiefs will win Super Bowl LIV?

Would You? Could You? Become a bigger fan of the Defense than the Offense in 2019? I know, I know, some of you are thinking this is such a ludicrous question with Patrick Mahomes, the new league MVP, and everyone’s new generational comparison entrenched on the offensive side of the ball for the next 15 years. However, there’s a new sheriff in town on the defensive side of the ball and his name is Steve Spagnuolo and… he’s brought a collection of excellent coaches with him and… Brett Veach has helped him clean house and… the defensive front is truly formidable and… the Safeties are now a strength of this D and… the D now has one of the fastest LBs in the league in Darron Lee (4.43 – 40) who was also the 3rd best in coverage in 2018. And. And. And. There’s a lot to get excited about on the defensive side of the ball and I think I may be looking forward to seeing them take the field as much as I do the Chiefs Patrick Mahomes led offense (isn’t it a great time to be a Kansas City Chiefs fan?!). Would you, could you, find yourself cheering more for the defense in 2019?

Would You? Could You? Be in favor of the Chiefs shipping a draft pick off to the Arizona Cardinals for CB Patrick Peterson even though he’s been suspended for the first 6 games of the season for using PEDs (performance enhancing drugs)? When I heard that Patrick Peterson had requested a pay increase this year even though he knew he would be suspended, I thought he would not fit the culture the Chiefs are trying to clean up in K.C.. However, since then he has apologized in what appears to be a sincere manner… apologizing for his conduct. Also not known at the time of his suspension was that he has Type 2 diabetes and was feeling sluggish so he took something to help as a “pick me up” which (unbeknownst to him) contained a banned substance. Then, he didn’t know until it was too late. I’m still inclined to think the Chiefs should make a move to get him but need to wait until later to see what the Cards are going to do. While I’m a Kyler Murray believer I don’t see that team mowing others down out of the gate. That means they may well end up 1-and-3 after facing the Lions, Ravens, Panthers, and the Seahawks in September. If that happens, the Cards will likely be thinking about planning for the future and a 2nd or 3rd round pick for Peterson may fill the bill. The days of a 1st round pick for PP are over as far as I can tell. What do you think? Would you, could you, be happy trading for Patrick Peterson either now or once the season begins?

Would You? Could You? Be in favor of casting a movie about all the changes to this team in the past year by casting famous actors, and other people (and maybe some not so famous people), to portray the roles of current Chiefs players? Yeah, me too, so I set out to cast that movie… although, I must admit, I’m still searching for a good title for this flick. I thought about “Patrick and the Purple Crayon” but this movie is more about the defense than the offense. I thought about “Apocalypse Now” but that was taken. I thought about “The Importance of Being Earnestly Steve Spagnuolo” but that just got ridiculously long. Otherwise…. I also thought about, “Frankie and the Four Seasons” but that was taken too. So, maybe you can help in that category. For now, here’s your cast. They’ve all already signed their contracts and filming begins next month. Like I said, now we only need a name for this C-moive (“C” stands for Chiefs). Oh, a budget would be nice too. Would you, could you?
