The difference in this sweep? There was absolutely no luck involved. You can say the Kansas City Chiefs own the Las Vegas Raiders right now if you like. One thing is for sure, there was no bus lapping Arrowhead Stadium after the game. You could also say, the Raiders pre-game dance on the Chiefs logo in the middle of the field backfired on them. Big time!

The Good

It’s hard to mention a sweep without also mentioning the combined score of their two games this year is: 89-to-23. Yep, that kind of sweep… and it was dirtier than a chimney sweep.

Play of the Game

“You can’t star the game better than that defensively.” Doh! It was the first play from the line of scrimmage and Mike Hughes came up with a scoop-and-score. It was all downhill racing from there for the Chiefs.

CB Mike Hughes wasn’t finished there either.

I can tell you who else was good in this game… the Chiefs running backs (and offensive line consequently) as K.C. out-rushed the Raiders 132 to 44.

You know who else was good in his game? –> Harrison Butker. He made 7 point-after attempts and two field goals. He personally outscore the Raiders 13-to-9.

.

The Glad

The Chiefs defense has now held the opposition in their last three straight games, to 9 points exactly. Over the past six game winning steak, they’ve allowed just 65 points for an average of 10.3 points per game. Drives by the Raiders in this game looked like this:

You have to be glad for… Steve Spagnuolo and the whole Chiefs defense. They have progressed from one of the leagues worst in the first half of the season to a top three defense. If not the best.

I’m glad for… the Chiefs defense forcing five turnovers in this game to pull their season GiveAway/TakeAway (Differential) total to even = 23-and-23.

I’m glad for… 4th string RB Derrick Gore and his 51 yards touchdown scamper while playing with the third string OL. He continues to show why he is deserving of more plays called for him.

I’m glad for... WR Tyreek Hill who now has over 1,000 yards receiving for the year (1,030). Travis Kelce now needs exactly 125 more receiving yards to reach that thousand yard plateau, for the sixth straight year in a row.

I’m glad for… Josh Gordon. His touchdown was perhaps the easiest play design I’ve ever seen for a score. Still, you have to be happy for the guy.

I’m glad (not sure if that’s the right word) for… the Bills losing to the Bucs, 33-to-27 in over time. I hate seeing the Bucs win, but I also am glad that an AFC team which has a tie-breaker over the Chiefs, have moved to 7-and-6 and are 2 full games behind K.C.. Oddly enough, the Bills may not even make the playoffs now.

.

The Lovely

Patrick Mahomes looked like the Patrick Mahomes of old. He was 20-of-24 (83.3 completion percentage) for 258 yards, 2 touchdowns and zero interceptions. He ended up with a 139.2 rating.

While the Chiefs defense was lovely in this game, again, the offense was equally lovely. Here’s how each of their drives ended up.

You need only key into he fact that Tommy Townsend had to punt one time, to understand how successful each of the Chiefs other drives were.

The Chiefs defense produced 4 sacks in this game and countless pressures.

.

Downsides in this game?

  • Andrew Wylie gave up a couple of sacks.
  • The defense appeared to have no answer for Raiders WR Hunter Renfrow. Renfrow had 13 receptions for 117 yards. He reminds me of Julian Edelman or Wes Welker and the Chiefs never seemed to have an answer for them either.
  • There were 17 total penalties in this game and the Chiefs had 8 of them. Shawn Sorter would want me to point out that far too many penalties are being called right now. I would tend to agree! However, the refs missed big time on a couple of calls that should have gone the Chiefs way.

What do you think?
