Chiefs Camp: 7 Critical Games Before the Bye

Chiefs Camp: 7 Critical Games Before the Bye

Chiefs Training Camp Begins at 9:30 AM today.

I’ve shared with David Bell on multiple occasion that if the Kansas City Chiefs could go 4-and-3 over their first seven games prior to their Bye Week, they’d be in great shape. Below is a look at the first seven games for the Chiefs.

.

Condensed From ESPN

.

.

.

Now, let’s take a look at why that might be the case, and I’ll project the first seven game’s winners.

At the Arizona Cardinals

The Chiefs HC Andy Reid’s current opening day winning steak on Opening Day is at 7. The last time he lost an opening day game in in 2014 when he lost to the Tennessee Titans, 26-to-10. His record on opening day as a head coach, beginning 22 years ago, looks like this:

.

.

It’s hard not to pick Andy Reid in this opening game on the road. Advantage Chiefs.

.

Home vs. the Los Angeles Chargers

.

This is one of those games which register’s as a revenge game for the Bolts players and so I’ll give this one to L.A..

Advantage Chargers

.

At the Indianapolis Colts

.

With Matt Ryan now at the helm, the Chiefs will see a better team than was fielded in 2021. Nevertheless, 5-foot-10, 226 lbs. RB Jonathan Taylor won’t be able to beat back the Chiefs new DL system which includes the stalwart Danny Shelton. Playing next to Chris Jones, Shelton and he will help to shut down the Colts all-Pro running game. Advantage Chiefs.

.

At the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

.

This is the other game I project that the Chiefs could have some trouble with. Tom Brady may end up finally showing his age. If not, the Chiefs could be in for a long game. Advantage Bucs.

.

Home vs. the Las Vegas Raiders

.

The Raiders may have signed the best WR in t he NFL in Davante Adams over the offseason, but he won’t be enough to overcome the Chiefs new-look defense which should begin to look better by week five. Especially at Arrowhead. Advantage Chiefs.

.

Home vs. the Buffalo Bills

.

If there ever was going to be a “revenge Game” that works against the Chiefs: this is it. You only need mention “13 seconds” to a Bills fans and they slip into a comma. It may be a Regular season game, but that won;t matter to the Bills as they go all out. Advantage Bills.

.

At the San Francisco 49ers

.

This is likely too long between the Super Bowl victory the Chiefs had over the 49ers for this to be a revenge game. Some players may remember it, but it’s highly doubtful that their older QB, Jimmy Garoppolo, will even be playing in the game (or playing for the 49ers at all by then). Their new QB is not going to have a first year like Mahomes had in 2018, and he should hold their offense back more than helping it. Advantage Chiefs.

.

If you go by my count, the Chiefs could easily begin this 2022 season with a 4-and-3 record. If that happens going into the second half of the season, they should be in great shape.
