Patrick Mahomes: The Reason For the Season

Labor Day is a National Holiday celebrated in the United States
on the first Monday in September to honor the American laborer.
.
Patrick Mahomes is about to begin his fifth year as a starter in the NFL — his 6th year in the league — and it’s high time we caught up with all that’s going on in his world. For some reason he has gotten his share of criticism and so much so that Rich Eisen has had to come to his defense.
.
.
What seems silly to me is that there are now doubters who think that the Chiefs, especially the offense, will fall off a cliff this year. It’s even more silly when you look at Mahomes record since taking over the starting position from Alex Smith in 2018:
.
.
Much has been made of Tyreek Hill moving on to the Miami Dolphins, so some fans can’t be convinced that Mahomes can succeed without him. However, only one of those passes was to Tyreek Hill, underneath!
.
.
StatMuse.com also provides this analysis:
.
“Patrick Mahomes has a passer rating of 103.1 with 1,737 yards, 8 touchdowns and 1 interception in 5 games without Tyreek Hill in his career.”
.
Does that sound like Mahomes is hurting when he doesn’t have Hill lined up? Mahomes’ off script performances on the field has inspired many others to “do the same” and here’s one good example. You’ll have to watch all the way to the end to understand the significance:
.
.
Below is a good example of Mahomes going off script. As Cole DeRuse said:
.
“Not a crazy play per se, but Mahomes’ ability to look off defenders is SO good lol. I don’t think this is technically a “no-look” pass, but the way he looks off the linebacker here is just so good. Had to share.”
.
.
Of course, Mahomes has had a huge impact on the game of football, historically, in terms of stats.
.
.
That’s not nearly all that he’s accomplished:
.
.
I won’t be betting against Mahomes getting another Playoff win (or two) this season, that’s for sure. Some of the detractors are other players in the league, and maybe it’s because they are jealous. It must be a “what have you done for me lately” league because when Mahomes had one poor half of a performance, and that came vs the Bengals in the AFC Championship game, then everyone seemed to jump on the “Mahomes is losing it” bandwagon:
.
.
.
Let’s not forget that Mahomes is a father now:
.
.
No. Not that kind of father, although the truth is the truth no matter where you find it.
.
.
Sterling Skye is growing up fast, and now Brittany, Patrick’s wife, is pregnant again and due in early 2023. Chiefs fans know that Patrick Mahomes is the best QB ever, but others need reminding.
.
.
What one person is more responsible for the team’s W/L record? The HC right? Then the responsibility falls upon the QB’s shoulders. So, what team(s) have won the most games over the past 9 years (the same number of years that Andy Reid has been in K.C.)? The Chiefs are tied with the Patriots for the most wins with 103. Here’s the top Five (6) from StatMuse.com:
.
.
During the years before Mahomes took over at QB, Reid averaged 10.8 victories per year. After Mahomes took over at QB, he averaged 12.25 wins each season. I was around when the Chiefs drafted QB Steve Fuller in the first round in 1979… and I was around when K.C. drafted Todd Blackledge in the first round in 1983… yep, I’m that old. Watching one GM/HC after another bypass a talented QB was painful to witness, as a Chiefs fan. Now, with Patrick Mahomes on board, it’s not only a Chiefs fan’s dream come true, but it’s easy to see why he’s considered the best in the game and even how he’s come to change the game. For good. Of course, for good!
