Chiefs Host Bills, Week 6: OPEN THREAD

Chiefs Host Bills, Week 6: OPEN THREAD

Laddie Morse

If you were circling a game on your calendar, if your’e someone who does that kind of thing, then this — the Bill at the Chiefs — is the one game you circle, for sure. It features the two best QBs in the NFL in Josh Patrick Allen and Patrick Lavon Mahomes II. Any way you slice it, it looks like a “Patrick” will be walking away with a win in this contest (yea, yea, I know they could tie, but it’s 60-to-1 odds that a tie won’t happen. So there!).

.

.

There’s an argument out there that Patrick Mahomes has accomplished more, in terms of championships, so he’s the better QB. Take a look:

.

.

I don’t really get that argument because Dan Marino (in the 1980s and 1990s) is one of the best QBs I’ve ever seen, especially when it comes to throwing the ball. He was the best of his era. However, do you know how many Super Bowls he won? Zero. Yes, he played for a championship following the 1984 season, but lost to Joe Montana and the 49ers 38-to-16. So, a championship is not the total measure of a great QB. So much else has to happen in an organization for a championship to be realized. Here’s more of Dan Marino’s accomplishments:

.

.

When Marino threw for those 420 TD passes, he was the King of TD passes. 6 QBs have passed him since then and only one of them hasn’t won a Lombardi. Remember, that was in the era of the NFL long before the age of passing became popularized.

Sure, Mahomes and Allen have nearly the same number of starts, 68 for Allen and 65 for Mahomes, but that doesn’t measure much does it. I guess what I’m trying to say is, no one should underestimate the gifts that Josh Allen possesses.

.

.

Josh Allen is having an MVP type season and the Chiefs need to give it their best efforts to pull this one out with a W. Patrick Mahomes and the 2022 Kansas City Chiefs will have their work cut out for them. How will they respond to the Allen led Bills?

.

.

So, it looks like the Chiefs starting CBs will be two rookies: 7th round pick, Jaylen Watson and 4th round pick Joshua Williams.

.

.

That’s a major strength (for the Bills) vs a major weakness (for the Chiefs). That’s where fans should keep their eyes glued, when the Bills have the ball. The talents, and flaws, of these two rookie CBs will be on HD display all game long. Last year the Chiefs signed UDFA CB, Dicaprio Bootle, and it appears that he will be activated this week as well. Any way you look at it, the Chiefs will be testing their unproven talent at CB vs one of the best in the NFL.

13 Seconds of Immortality

If this game today doesn’t remind you of the 13 second playoff game between the Bills and Chiefs this past January, you must have been in outer space for the past 9 months.

Predictions: Chiefs Wire

The Bills started out this week as the 2.5 point favorites and are now 1.5 point favorites. ChiefsWire has their predictions up and they include each of these writers:

.

Charles Goldman – Chiefs 35, Bills 28

Wesley Roesch – Bills 34, Chiefs 31

Nick Roesch – Bills 41, Chiefs 37

Ed Easton Jr. – Chiefs 35, Bills 28

.

A split, that doesn’t help us at all. So, everyone at ChiefsWire believes the two teams will score more than 62 points combined. Draft Kings says the total over/under is set at 54 points while FanDuel says the over/under is set at 53.5. So, any way you look at it, this is going to be a high scoring game, and, if you’re a betting person — which I am not — you might want to rush right out and place your hard earned paycheck on this anomaly.

Predictions: CBS Sports

.

Interesting that of all the CBS Sports Writers, only Jared Dubin has a significantly positive record of predicting. Sure, Dave Richard is one over, but 6 other writers are all losers when it comes to predicting the outcomes of NFL games. What does that mean? It means we can’t count on any of these guys to predict games, and these are supposed to be the CBS know-it-alls of the NFL. It also means that we can’t count on them to tell us anything when it comes to the Chiefs v Bills game.

RBs Matter

The Chiefs and Bills running backs will make a difference in this game, maybe the difference. One of the Chiefs RBs who really came through last week was Jerick McKinnon. Here, he explains his offseason (1:52):

.

What I notice more than the wonderful 30 yard run by McKinnon, was his even greater block on the Raiders LB Divine Deablo towards the end of this video.

.

Weather: Game Time

We’ve had some wind in K.C. over he past two days, so that’s the only possible weather that could effect this game. Remember, game time is at 3:25 PM CDT.

.

.

Referee Crew: Brad Allen

The Chiefs haven’t had much fortune in regards to the draw of Referee Crews lately. The Brad Allen Crew is no different.

.

.

Chiefs Wire and Charles Goldman share that:

.

“So far this season, Allen’s crew has called a total

of 52 penalties, good for the fifth-most in the

NFL through five games.”

.

The Chiefs have had an up and down season so far this year. If that continues, and follows suit, then this game should be a blow out in favor of the Chiefs. My personal preference is that the Chiefs blow out the Bills in the post-season. In other words, I care less about the outcome of this game, unless it means the Chiefs will have to travel to Buffalo in the post-season. That means, with the post-season AFC Championship location on the line today, I think the Chiefs players will all be bringing their A-game. That’s why I’m going with the Chiefs blowing out the Bills. Chiefs 41, Bills 28.

.

Chris Jones Update

.

In other words, “If the gloves don’t fit, you must acquit” uh…. I mean… “If there’s no fine, then there’s no crime.” Well, it almost rhymes. Still, it holds true. I also noticed that Grady Jarrett of the Falcons wasn’t fined either for slinging Tom Brady to the ground, but Brady was for kicking him. NFL fans just want to see some consistency and fairness. Please.

Go Chiefs!
