With this weekend’s game coming up for our Kansas City Chiefs, whether they win or lose — we’ll win — the next four months will be important for the team and roster as we head into the the next year and season. With that in mind, here are some important NFL and Chiefs dates to remember as we’re moving forward through the calendar year.

January 2023
Jan. 16 – Special Eligibility Deadline for college players
Jan. 20 – List of Special Eligibility collegians given to teams
Jan. 21 – Divisional Playoff Games
Jan. 22 – Divisional Playoff Games
Jan. 29 – NFC and AFC Championship Games
Jan. 31 – Extended Injury Protection Benefit deadline
February 2023
Feb. 03 – Non-playoff clubs must submit lists of Physician-Certified 2023 Basic Injury Protection Benefit Candidates to the Management Council.
Feb. 4 – Pro Bowl

“The 2023 Pro Bowl Games will take place in Las Vegas and, per an NFL release, will feature a “week-long celebration of player skills” with a focus on Flag football. Instead of a traditional football game, the AFC and NFC players will face off in a flag game on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2023.”

It’s probably a good thing they’re going to “Flag” football because that’s what the Pro Bowl games have become anyway. Besides, who wants to see their favorite players injured in a less than meaningless game anyway?!

Feb. 12 – Super Bowl LVII, at State Farm Stadium, in Glendale, AZ.
Feb 13 – “Beginning the first business day after the Super Bowl through the opening of the first training camp for Rookies in 2023, clubs must report all tryouts and visits to the League office; however, such transactions will not be reported to other clubs.”
Feb. 13 – Waiver system starts.
Feb. 16 – Physician-Certified 2023 Basic Injury Protection Benefit Candidates to the Management Council deadline.
Feb. 21 – Teams may designate Franchise or Transition Players (through March 7).
March 2023
Feb. 28 through March 6 – NFL Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium, in Indianapolis, IN.
Mar. 7 – Pro Days Start
Mar. 7 to Apr. 19 – “Draft-Eligible Facility Visits Begin. Clubs permitted 30 non-local players for physical exams/visits; no on- field workouts.”
Mar. 7 to Apr. 26 – Video (and phone) interviews begin. Prospects may have: 3 video/phone interviews no longer than one hour.
Mar. 13-15 – Negotiation Period begins. Some call this the Meet-n-Greet-n-Cheat period. It’s a time for promises… but nothing signed.
Mar. 15 – Top 51 Rule goes into effect. All teams must be under the 2023 Salary Cap.
Mar. 15 – Trading Period Begins
Mar. 15 – “Commencing at 4:00 p.m., New York time, Clubs may designate up to two Player Contracts that, if terminated on or prior to June 1, 2023, and if not renegotiated after January 9, 2023, shall be treated as if terminated on June 2, subject to the further requirements of CBA Article 13, Section 6(b)(ii)(1).”
Mar. 23 – Extended Injury Protection Benefit deadline.
Mar. 26 to 29 – Owner’s Annual League Meeting at The Biltmore, in Phoenix, AZ.
Mar. 30 – Guaranteed or Deferred Compensation designation deadline.
April 2023
Apr. 03 – New HCs may begin offseason workout programs.
Apr. 17 – Returning HCs may begin offseason workout programs.
Apr. 19 – “Deadline for clubs to time, test, visit, interview, or conduct a physical examination with a draft-eligible player at its club facility.” One week before the NFL Draft.
Apr. 21 – Restricted FAs deadline for signing with a team.
Apr. 26 – Deadline for Prior Club to exercise Right of First Refusal for FAs.
Apr. 27 – “Deadline for clubs to time, test, visit, interview (including video and phone calls), or conduct a physical examination with a draft-eligible player at any location.”
Apr. 27 to Apr. 29 – NFL Draft at Kansas City, MO.

Although the season is coming to an end, some crucial football activities are not. In fact, some of those activities may be more important to a team than the regular season games, especially when you consider that each team is really constructed or re-built during this time of the year.
