It’s hard to believe but the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl LVII victory is now nearly four months in the past, and the NFL Draft was over a month ago. In any event, the Chiefs have not sat still during any moment of this offseason and are still likely to make moves in the coming weeks and months. Let’s not forget that DE Carlos Dunlap was signed in late July last year and Training Camp in St. Joseph had already begun.
.
The new rule for kickoffs is in no way universally accepted. Here’s that new rule:
.
The new kickoff rule in the NFL will provide the opportunity for the ball to be placed at the 25-yard line on kickoffs if a fair catch is called behind the 25-yard line.
.
The Chiefs HC Andy Reid has spoken out against it and so has Special Teams coach as well. Here’s Reid:
.
.
This week, the Chiefs Special Teams coach Dave Toub said this about the new rule:
.
“I don’t like it. It’s not something we’re happy about. That’s an issue because, as the source also explained it, the rule making function has evolved to the point where it’s basically Commissioner Roger Goodell and McKay [referring to Rich McKay, head of the NFL competition committee and president of the Falcons] setting the agenda and calling the shots.”
.
Dave Toub goes on to say they’re going to stay “aggressive”:
.
“How are you going to score a touchdown if you don’t return it? If we’re up in a game, for instance, and we don’t want to take a shot on goal because they kick the ball to us, and it might be better for the team just to fair catch it and take it out the 25, we’ll do it, but it’s not something that we’re going to do a lot. We’re going to be aggressive.”
.
Let’s not forget that Chris Jones has already stated in writing that he will be a Chiefs players for life.
.
.
“I’m a Chief for life.
I will not play for another franchise.”
.
So, Chiefs fans need to calm down about the restructuring of Chris Jones contract. Have you heard anyone in the organization say they don’t want him? Or anything close to that… like criticizing him? No? Me either and I’ve had my ear to the tracks for years now and that train ain’t a’comin’.

We’ve been hearing and reading a lot about another WR for the Chiefs, like DeAndre Hopkins or even Mike Evans. It’s mostly been trade talk but with Hopkins receiving his release from the Arizona Cardinals, he now has the option of choosing the team he’d like to play for. Of all the teams out there, K.C. seems to make the most sense to me. Hopkins criteria for his next team includes:
.
.
While many are hoping and waiting for the Chiefs to sign D-Hop, it may end up being another Edge Rusher that the Chiefs sign. However, that may not come until July or August. Those in the know, have pointed to Frank Clark and/or Carlos Dunlap with the idea that they could be the one’s to help train our new Edge Rushers like Felix Anudike-Uzomah or George Karlaftis… like they did for GK last year. Yannick Ngakoue’s name has surfaced and he is still out there. Ngakoue just turned 28 years old and has had 19.5 sacks over the last two years. Someone to think about.
.
The Chiefs are likely already satisfied with the WRs they have in house. Those include: Kadarius Toney (who many expect to be the Chiefs #1 WR), Skyy Moore (and much has been written about him coming back this year stronger and more confident), Marquez Valdes-Scantling (who is getting a lot of hype for his play in the AFC Championship game), Justyn Ross (who is the offseason fancy of Chiefs fans who want him to be their #1 guy), John Ross ( who is healthy and his incredible speed is ever-present), Richie James (who’s return ability is being marketed to the masses), rookie Rashee Rice (who is being haled as much bigger and better than we first thought when he was drafted), Justin Watson (who’s pass-catching ability spans two goats), plus Ihmir Smith-Marsette and Nikko Remigio.
For many Kingdom fans this is a WR Group that is lacking. For me… and I think the Chiefs as well, this group is flourishing.
.
There are a number of Chiefs players who are not attending OTAs. Those not attending include:
.
.
Each of these players have a differing reason for not being at OTAs. We know that Isiah Pacheco is still recovering from offseason surgeries he’s had on his his hand and labrum. Tershawn Wharton is also still recovering from his ACL surgery. Also, CB Trent McDuffie, Safety Mike Edwards and OT Chukwuebuka Jason Godrick were there but did not have their helmets on. HC Reid said holding Sneed and McDuffie back was “precautionary.”
What other Chiefs stories are hanging over from this week?
