Chiefsmas Comes Early

Perhaps it’s the win against he Baltimore Ravens on Thursday evening… perhaps it’s the speed displayed by Xavier Worthy in that game… or perhaps its getting to see the Chiefs on the Arrowhead field after what seems like an eternal offseason… but any way you look at it, it feels like Chiefsmas Comes Early this year.

It won’t surprise me at all if the NFL decides to fine Roquan Smith for hitting QB Patrick Mahomes when he was clearly out of bounds. I hope he is fined actually.

Some say — probably Ravens fans — that Mahomes flopped on this play, but even the announcers were like, “looks like contact… out of bounds.” It looks like Roquan Smith is going out of his way to hurt our phenom QB. Here’s what he said before the game:

“We will stop the run and make them one-dimensional.”

Smith also threatened the Chiefs new Tight End, Peyton Hendershot, after the game. Smith not only said Mahomes flopped, but then went on to threaten Hendershot:

The Chiefs RBs and WRs had 69 yards rushing combined while the Ravens RBs and WRs had 63 yards rushing combined. Sounds like neither team could run the ball super well… outside of the QB runs. The problem for Roquan Smith is, the Chiefs finished with more passing yards with 281, and while he wanted to make the Chiefs one-dimensional, they kept running the ball, even at the end of the game, when they could have kept a balanced attack on their last drive.

Chiefsmas is all about Hope. So, here’s my list of Chiefsmas Hopes and Dreams:

I hope… the league can find a way to improve upon the new spangled Kickoff rule. In their most recent game I believe the Chiefs kicked off through the end zone every time they scored then the Ravens starting at the 30 yard line. The Ravens tried kicking off to the Chiefs once or twice and the Chiefs made it to the: 33. Was it worth it? BTW, the NFL is already looking at changing the Kickoff rule (5:24).

I hope… the NFL will go back to telecasting all games on local channels, including preseason games. While preseason games may be boring to many, they are a view into the eventual players who could make the team. Fans of football need to see that… no matter how bad someone thinks those games are played.

I don’t know if that would be a solution, but………..

I hope… players who have crossed the goal line, and have clearly scored a TD, can be protected when they are at least five yards into the end zone. Let’s not have players hitting other players when they are that deep into the end zone. It makes no sense. I guess the NFL will only take action on this one… once someone gets hurt.

I hope… the Chiefs can repeat as champions this year and put a stop to all the Three-peat talk and who is the actual GOAT. Then… OF COURSE… all the four-peat talk will begin. BTW… we all know… in our heart of hearts and brain of brains… that Mahomes is better than Brady ever was.

I hope… that someday, when a player is hit out of bounds, or a foul is need to be called, if the league if going to fine a player for such a late hit, then why can’t officials in a booth, even if they are in New York or some remote location (especially in big game), send a call in for the refs on the field to go to a viewing station, like they have in Soccer, and view those calls again. It’s tiring to see a bad call made when a good call is possible.

I hope… Patrick Mahomes gets better and better and better (3:12) … especially in 2024.

I don’t know who made this (pic below) or when this was made, but I do know it came from Chiefs.com and that’s where it was adapted from:

Since Chiefsmas is often about the GIFTS, I thought it might be appropriate to list some of the gifts that the Santa of Chiefsmas brought us this offseason:

This doesn’t include all the player the Chiefs re-signed. Of course this doesn’t include Louis Rees-Zammit or Kamal Hadden, and even though they’re now with other team, they were a real gift from the Santa of Chiefsmas. Let me know if there’s anyone I may have left off of this list.

Do you have any other hopes for the NFL, or the Chiefs?
