Training Camp Begins at 9:30 This Morning

You must be a die-hard Chiefs fan and believe that the Chiefs will win the AFC West, the AFC Championship, and get to the Super Bowl in 2022. I have posted an article previously about the soon-to-be-seen prowess of the Chiefs “New-Look” Offense. I am standing by those observations. A huge reason I gave was that opposing Defensive Coordinators would not be able to predict what plays are to be called and cannot depend on isolating coverage based on stopping Tyreek Hill. You can review that article here:”Notice Is Served! The Chiefs Aerial Offense Will Be a Potent Force In 2022

.

In the article, I projected some numbers that I think would be the result of the 2022 Offense. You can find those numbers if you scan down for the subtitle: “A Good Weather Forecast – for 2022.

Today, as I write this article about the outlook of the Chiefs, and I want to point to a video segment of Rich Eisen in which he talks himself into believing that the Chiefs offense will be a better version than in prior seasons. Take the time to listen in. It is not a long video segment, but Eisen covers much of what I wrote on August 3rd in the article referred to above. Listen here:

I am Doubling Down

Imagine a WR group with the following targets: Hardman, Smith-Schuster, Valdes-Scantling, Skyy Moore, and then pick 2 more from among these players: Josh Gordon, Justin Watson, Cornell Powell, Daurice Fountain, and Corey Coleman. If we were to call it a 6-player group, and I add Justin Watson, Cornell Powell, or Josh Gordon, this WR Group is outstanding. It is far better than any WR corps the Chiefs have ever had on any roster in the team’s history, bar none.

In the TE Role, the Chiefs have perhaps the best receiver in the NFL: The much beloved Travis Kelce.

Then back it up with two aerial threats to any team: Noah Gray And Jody Fortson. Next, add to the group a solid Vet: Blake Bell. Then consider the routes that can be run with Kelce, Fortson, and Gray! Finally, foresee the 3-TE Offense sets–the stuff from which greatness will be fielded from the Tight Ends. I’ve got to say I am a big booster behind Jody Fortson. See the one-handed catch vs. the 49ers:

Let’s Add in the Ball Carriers

All the RBs on the roster are pass-catching-qualified receivers. If I select four for the roster plus a Fullback at this early stage, it would be CEH, Jerick McKinnon, Isiah Pacheco (who may move up to RB#2 by the season opener), and Ronald Jones, Jr.. The Fullback will be Mike Burton. RoJo may slide into oblivion because of his poor performance in preseason game #1. I think Derrick Gore is in danger of being released. I trust that RoJo’s downturn against the Bears was a fluke.

Let’s imagine the Chiefs keep four RBs and a Fullback. No Fear Here: Jerrion Ealy could well begin on the PS along with Taylor Fleet-Davis. Either player could be called up at any point, Ealy has speed and moves, plus, he adds WR talent to boot. Today? I expect the 1-2 punch to end up being CEH and Pacheco, who has been going great guns in training camp and showed well in the first preseason game. No matter how it ends up, all of the talent on the 85-man roster are receiver-qualified. This group may not be a top RB group in the NFL, but they will handle the workload when and where they are called upon to do so.

Protecting Mahomes

From all the various articles published at ArrowheadOne, you can glean a continuous thread of ideas that indicate the Chief’s offensive line is one of the best in the NFL. It is just that. But not only will the OL be capable of protecting the pocket, but it is also capable of being a group of bulldozers with assigned or zone blocking. The only question about a starter was who would be the ROT – and it certainly appears at this point that Andrew Wylie has gotten the nod. All of the starters finished the 2021 season after Lucas Niang was injured. What this means to me is that the players on the OL will have mastered working together and engendering excellence which I characterize as mastering the Four C’s: Cohesive, Coordination, Continuity, and Communication.

Where is the video from Pete Schrager of Good Morning Football about the prowess of the New-Look Chiefs Offense?

.

.

My final remarks? We saw one drive in the game vs. the Bears. Mahomes targeted six receivers who caught passes. The ground game worked. Andy Reid opted to show other looks as Patrick Mahomes, and the starters, were in for a single possession.

Are you really going to bet against Patrick Mahomes?
