The Kansas City Chiefs had a tough week of practice in St. Joe this past week. We have had no serious injuries. The IR list remains the same, with no surprises. Kadarius Toney won’t make opening day, for example, but is still on the active roster, so there is that possibility.
Except for Nazeeh Johnson’s injury which has ended his 2023 campaign, the Chiefs are standing in good stead. Isaiah Moore is lost for the 2023 campaign. The Turk is working his way back to active status (good news)!

Notice Served – Chiefs Players
“The players sound upbeat- that’s good. There is a huge tone of chippiness – so far no outbreak of violence … a punch now and then hasn’t been carried to the locker room. The guys are “intense” and as Andy said they are playing with an “edge” … attitude.“
– David Bell, comment on Sunday.

“The challenge on offense has to do with numbers. In other words, how many players will be kept at specific positions? With zero FBs this year, HC Andy Reid must eventually clear up how many TEs… how many RBs… and how Many TEs will be kept, and some of those players must be able to step in and take the role of a FB from time to time.”

ArrowheadOne’s Joint Take (Laddie and David)
This past week, Laddie and I exercised a look at the 90-roster and came up with an article that addressed the likely 53-man roster. It is apparent that Ladner and I think quite a bit alike. In Laddie’s summary, he notes that Nikko Remigio was his pick in the beginning for S/T work. In the past week, Remigio has made “noise” as a target for PMII. I mentioned in passing that my view had shifted a bit to that of one of our frequent post-maniacs and sometimes author. I am now thinking that the Chiefs coaching staff may indeed retain Remigio, but they will also retain Richie James, so both players make the roster because roster spots are open.
See the article: “Players by Position”, here.
The probable question mark comes down to safety Nic Jones in other words. Other than that, I think our roster proposition is solid barring last-minute surprises and/or stellar feats in a pre-season game.

Of Special Note
Tight Ends Blake Bell and Matt Bushman appear to me to be nose and nose at the wire for the 4th TE role. I must admit to being a bit torn by this either/or choice. It won’t hurt my feelings if one makes it, and the other goes to the PS. Veterans, according to the new NFL Rule, can be placed on the “Taxi Squad”. At this moment, I’d take youth over tradition (Bell and his father having been Chiefs players). I think that it’s safer to try to stash Bell as opposed to Bushman.

Over-All Roster and the Chris Jones Saga
I am sitting here Sunday Afternoon, trying to spot any real weakness. The fact that Chris Jones’s contract negotiations are still ongoing misdirects us away from what is real and true. Unless there is a trade CJ Will be a Chief in 2023. What happens after that is the question. Sure, it bothers me but let’s face it. If Brett Veach sticks with what has been said (two round-one draft picks for another team’s acquisition of STONE COLD JONES) then I think we likely can rest assured that CJ will be a Chiefs in 2023. Would I take a round-one and a round-two pick plus more? Yes, I would. Sometimes you have to bite the bullet to fire the “pistol.” The Chiefs are in this for the long hall and Brett Veach is the right GM to make the call.
.
Are There Late Season Acquisitions or Trades Looming?
If this is the real question, then my answer to part one of the query is: Absolutely Yes. Examine what you know about Brett Veach and his history as the Chief’s GM… Name a season where he didn’t make a move as opening day approached, or even after the season began!
For the second part of the question, you need to look at the depth of the roster, find the strengths, and then determine if a trade is possible. You may come up with answers different than my own, but I see RB, OL, LB, WR, and Safety as having a strength that would attract other teams to make a trade offer. If Brett Veach and the coaching staff foresaw the means to improve the roster, would they make such a trade? I’d bet my sister’s black cat in compensation that such would be done.
Was it PFF that ranked the Chiefs as the 4th best roster in the NFL? I saw that in passing, but I’d venture that it is a top 5 roster, no matter who or what was doing the evaluation.
What We Have is What We Get! – I like what I am seeing from the players.
