Allow Myself to Reintroduce Myself

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages…

Arrowhead One proudly presents the greatest written word on the internet (it’s subjective, I know)…

Have you missed me?

I know I disappeared from the scene right after the Kansas Chiefs took the “L” to the Pittsburgh Steelers last January. I am sorry.  It actually had nothing to do with the fact that our favorite team pissed away the best opportunity they have had in years to secure a spot in the Conference Championship. It actually had everything to do with the fact that after 21 years in the United States Air Force, and just having crested the age of 40, I will be receiving my Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice in November.

I have been working my butt off since February to complete my final 24 credits, and the finish line is in sight. Our awesome Editor-in-CHIEFS, Ladner “Laddie” Morse allowed me to take a leave of absence over the spring and summer to concentrate on my schoolwork, and that is what I have been doing. Now that I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, and football season is nigh upon us, I thought I would triumphantly return to grace your eyeballs with some Chiefs thoughts for the coming season.

Training Camp Thoughts

If you have not been paying attention, there is some exciting stuff going on in St. Joseph, Missouri. First, apparently Alex Smith going deep to the Chiefs’ primary wide receiver is a thing.

To that I say, “Hell Yeah!”  I know many of you think “You can’t teach an old Alex new deep passes.” I will admit that I have thought that many times over the past several years as well. And guys, I am an Alex Smith supporter. I am a fan.  I have an autographed Alex Smith #11 jersey hanging in my Chiefs’ room.  But, I also know enough about football to know that when a guy has been playing a certain way for a long time, he generally does not change his modus operandi…see, I told you I was getting a degree in criminal justice.

The other thing about this statement is, everybody looks good in training camp. Remember when we thought Jon Baldwin was the second coming of Megatron–we’ll call him Galvatron–because of that catch he made that one time in training camp? Well, I do.  Guys…Jon Baldwin sells shoes at a Payless in Cincinnati now…I think. Oh wait, no, that is Tyler Palko… sorry.

There are some other things that are getting my blood pumping in training camp. This guy who has a bowl of alphabet soup for a name–let me try it–Tanoh Kpassagnon. Wow, that was a mouthful. Apparently this dude is a beast who could really be challenging for playing time early on, especially combined with the fact that Chris Jones is starting the year on the Physically unable to Perform list due to a knee scope earlier in the preseason.

What the Season Will Bring

I am back, and I am all in on bringing you, my faithful followers, the best Chiefs blogs I can muster! I will bring you a first-hand accounting as my wife and I go inside enemy territory in a couple of weeks as we travel to the second loudest “open air stadium” in the world and watch the Chiefs play the Seattle Seahawks for Week 3 of the preseason. I managed to score near 50-yard line tickets right behind the Chiefs’ bench, so while I’m not trying to stop Mrs. Seibel from attacking Travis Kelce, I will be attempting to engage the other players in conversation.

I will bring you film break down this year, as only I can in my “Anatomy of a Touchdown” piece. Just like last season, when the Chiefs score a touchdown in a game, you win because you get to relive that play inch-by-inch as I break down the film for you and show you exactly why it worked.

Finally, we are going to have fun this year. We are going to have a good season this year, and we are going to make Arrowhead One even bigger and even better this year.

I can’t wait!

Thanks for reading, and GO CHIEFS!
