An Arrowhead Tour

A friend of mine since college and his wife, who I’ve known even longer, went on a Tour of Arrowhead Stadium yesterday and they sent me some photos.

It all began in the 1960s. Our own David Bell has been a fan of the Chiefs since the beginning and I hope you keep up with his articles as he has a great perspective on the Kansas City Chiefs.

In the beginning, the Chiefs started out as the Dallas Texans then moved to K.C. after realizing that Dallas already had the Cowboys. Back in those days, the Texans (Chiefs) played all their HOME game in what is now known as the Cotton Bowl. Of course, the Chiefs took on the name of “Chiefs” when the mayor of K.C., H. Roe Bartle, who was nicknamed “Chief Mayor Bartle” at that time… thus… “The Chiefs.” Many get confused about where the name originated from. I’m glad we got that straightened out.

The Chiefs have long been a family atmosphere, not only on game day at the stadium, but in the parking lot during pre-game hours which are also the best tailgating hours you’ll ever experience. The smoke from shared BBQs wafting over the parking lot is a site and smell to behold.

It’s hard to believe it’s been nearly ten years ago now, but the Arrowhead Stadium crowd set a record for the noisiest stadium when the reached the maker of 142.2 Decibels. BTW, my father was an Acoustical Engineer and would tell us as teenagers — not wanting to see us blow our eardrums out — that permanent hearing damage could be done while listening to music at or above 90 decibels for any kind of sustain period.

I apologize for the smaller pieces over the past few weeks as I got home from rehab just a few days ago… and that was from right-knee surgery three Mondays ago. I’m walking without a cane and things are looking up. Thanks as always for your support.
