ARROWHEADONE CHIEFS WEEK 10: GAME THREAD

ARROWHEADONE CHIEFS WEEK 10: GAME THREAD

This match-up between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Carolina Panthers today at noon Central Time Zone is one of great interest. If the 3-5 Panthers win they will have done some significant damage since beginning the year 1-5. if the Kansas City Chiefs win they will have put themselves in a position to lead the AFC West essentially tying the Oakland Raiders at 7-2 but leading the division since they are 2-0 in head-to-head competition.

This week’s game will pit the Chiefs #21… and ascending… passing attack, which will be missing a key component with Jeremy Maclin out. There was talk that Chris Conley would not go today but he was a “Full Participant” in Friday’s run-through so I think he’ll likely be a go. However, the Panthers passing defense is ranked #29 and has two rookies starting at Cornerback, 6-foot-1 James Bradberry out of Samford and 6-foot-1 Daryl Worley from Virginia. These are both players I liked as prospects and they are said to be playing better as of late but you can bet your britches that our Andy of Mayberry is going to test these youngins at every turn.

On the flip side, the Chiefs #14 passing defense will be facing the #15 ranked passing attack of the Panthers. What will not show up on that their stat sheet is the size, strength, athletic ability and all-around scariness that their QB presents to a defense, which transcends the words, “passing attack.” I don’t think it’s enough to say that the Panther’s QB Cam Newton is a wild-card when facing their offense. What that essentially means for DBs is that they have to play the “run” when they are playing the “pass,” because Mr. Newton can take off and run while his WRs are in the middle of a route tree and they then become blockers for this 6-foot-5 inch rocketman. Extra pressure on the CBs? You got that right!

When the Chiefs are running the ball it’s their #20 rushing attack vs. the Panther’s #3 rush defense. In this game, it will be a case of the Chiefs throwing the ball… to run the ball. Unless the Chiefs are successful passing the ball… their running game is likely to have a hard time. Now, this is where I hope Andy of Mensa doesn’t over-think things and try to prove his scheme or offensive linemen… are better than they really are.

The Panthers have the #9 rushing attack in the league and it will be a key to winning this game for the Chiefs front 7 to stop their running game even though the Chiefs defense is ranked #27 against the run. Here’s where Mr. Wildcard Newton comes into play with his legs. He’s bigger and stronger than most RBs in the league and gives their offense a dimension that no other team has: a running QB who can really ram the ball down your throat.

What do you think Chiefs fans? Think we can hand out a lickin’… but keep on tickin’?.
