Dan Harms at RGR Football has an excellent session in which he takes a deep look at Jody Fortson. I highly recommend you review it, forthwith: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpmkl8o5hkY
In 2021, the fans were witnessing an emerging TE – Jody Fortson. Fortson was making plays and QB Patrick Mahomes had developed a trust in his new toy.
Fortson 6’14”, 240 Lbs, was showing why his skill set was a perfect addition to the Chief’s aerial preparatory. Joseph Demarius Fortson, Jr. (Jody) joined the Chiefs as a UDFA in 2019. Last season, his talent was being unveiled, game by game. Then the season fell apart for Fortson in week five when he suffered a season-ending Achilles Tendon injury in the xxx game, in October. During the long off-season, he traveled to Texas to work with Bobby Stroup. His rehab progress was showing In the 2022 off-season, present during the OTAs. Fortson was working in a limited fashion on the field and with the training staff in the early OTAs. This is very crucial to his upcoming season and is encouraging. He was working on individual drills with his Personal trainer.
The second-year tight end is returning from a season-ending injury with torn Achilles in the 4th game of the 2021 season in October versus the WFT. He appears to be on course to be able to make his game contact appraisal during Training Camp. If that is the case, the Chiefs will be blessed to add him to the TE Mix. At this point, I view him as the #2 TE for Bieniemy’s offense.

What was becoming Apparent in 2021, was that Fortson’s hands were dependable, he could take high passes from Mahomes and produce reception yards and Yards after Catch. in the three games he played fully in 2021 he had garnered two TDs. In the 4th game versus the WFT, Jody had a 27-yard reception that ended up inside the 2-yard line. After watching Fortson in 2021 I was ecstatic about the potential for 2022. I referred to Dan Harms’s view above and I believe he is spot on about what to expect with Jody in 2022!
