Twitwits, Vidiots and Quote-bloats

I guess I’m mostly talking about myself here but there certainly is precedence for those who live on Twitter… love to post cray-cray videos and share posters with semi-inspiring or offensive (hmm… there’s a chance that’s sometimes the same thing) posters with quotes on them. So, I thought we might explore some of those tweets, vids and notable quotes.

Victor Ochi to the 53-man Active Roster?

Don’t miss Ransom Hawthorne’s article on Friday morning, “Chiefs Obscura”

I’m a bit confused… did Victor Ochi get signed to the Chiefs practice Squad or is he on the 53-man active roster? If it’s the 53-man roster, I can’t wait to see him in action. I like this guy a lot.Not only during last year’s draft but during what I have dubbed the NFL’s Alchemy Weekend, the weekend before the season begins and every team is going through their cutdowns, I stated my interest and reverence for Victor Ochi. Now, the Chiefs have him on their practice squad… err… 53-man active roster.  Of all the smaller defensive ends/OLBs in the 2016 draft, Dadi Nicolas and Victor Ochi were tops on my list. Now, artist Andy has more clay to mold. Take a look at Victor Ochi’s DraftBreakDown video from 2016 –> here.

Dee Ford Quote

On the Jim Rome show recently, Dee Ford said,

“It’s one thing to believe, but it’s another to actually go and to actually get it done and execute. That’s a different kind of confidence. So we just know from defense, offense, special teams, we know one of those units is going to do something to help this team win. … I think there’s some legitimacy to the answer because you need all three units to be on point, and I think we’ve all played well throughout the year. We’re playing our best ball right now. And those are signs of a Super Bowl-run team.”

Dee Ford has had a down then up then down season. It’s kind of been an Oreo year for Ford. There was the creamy center but the hard cookie covering didn’t taste very good by itself. Here’s to hoping that Ford goes cream-pie in the playoffs.

There’s a question I have here too, about not saying the name Lord Voldemort… uhhh, I mean Super Bowl… this close to the actual playoffs? It’s one thing to make it your goal all season long… but another thing to be saying you have a Super Bowl team on the eve of the playoffs isn’t it? Or… am I just being Super-bowlic-sticious?

2017 Hall of Fame Finalists

The 2017 list of Hall of Fame finalists is out. So, who do you predict who will get in… and then who do you think deserves it most? Here’s the list:

  1.  Brian Dawkins- safety
  2.  Jason Taylor- defensive end
  3.  LaDainian Tomlinson- running back
  4.  Morten Andersen- kicker
  5.  Don Coryell- coach
  6.  Kurt Warner- quarterback
  7.  Terrell Davis- running back
  8.  Isaac Bruce- wide receiver
  9.  Terrell Owens- wide receiver
  10.  Tony Boselli- offensive tackle
  11.  Alan Faneca- guard
  12.  Joe Jacoby- offensive tackle
  13.  Ty Law- cornerback
  14.  John Lynch- safety
  15.  Kevin Mawae- center

My personal preferences are Isaac Bruce, Tony Boselli and LaDainian Tomlinson to make it in. Don Coryell has to get in sooner or later… right? So, he should go in this time as well.

Jason Nit-Whitlock?

Former Kansas City Star Chiefs beat writer Jason Whitlock has painted himself into a corner as a national media sports analyst. We always knew his opinions were a bit acerbic or terse but now everything he says comes off as negative or hypercritical. Now, Athlon.com has said that what Mr. Whitlock has to share comes off as “bitter shots and outlandish opinions.” It’s too bad because his talents appear to languish in the no-way-to-win rhetorical wars he is constantly caught in. Here’s Jason is defending his opinion about MMA pugilist, Rhonda Rousey,

I once revered Jason Whitlock’s writing while he was in K.C. and used his writing to inspire the inner city youth I was teaching creative writing too. Now, it seems Jason Whitlock “needs” to manufacture an opinion to keep people listening… or reading… or reacting to his Twitter feeds, as the case may be… in order to be relevant.

Tick-Tock, Mick-Mock

It’s that time again! What would a post following the season be without a “good” (I know, I’m questioning the use of that word myself)… 2017 NFL Draft Mock. Here then, is my very first mock of the offseason (????… I know, that’s not coming for the Chiefs until February 6th). The following draft was created at First-Pick.com and as you can tell I had to do quite a bit of trading back to come up with 10 picks but since the Chiefs will likely end up with 8 or 9 picks in the upcoming draft I thought it might be a good idea to replicate those circumstances. Enjoy

Steals, Deals, Men With Wheels

If you’re wondering if I have come across a steal in the upcoming draft, the answer is yes. He’s a Corner Back from San Diego State and his name is Damontae Kazee and he goes 5-foot-11, 190. Here’s a video of Kazee and he always seems to be in the right place at the right time. He reminds me a little of Eric Berry in college but Kazee has had 15 INTs in the past two seasons. DraftTek has Kazee ranked 105 overall and CBS Sports has him at ranked at 150. I say he’s a second round talent if not higher. I once saw him intercept three passes in a game… and now you can see it too. While Kazee is excellent in coverage he’s equally good against the run and likes to come up and pop runners behind the line of scrimmage if they dare run to his side of the field. Some players have a lot of talent but it needs to be shaped. Some players have talent and are already rounding into shape before they get drafted: that’s Damontae Kazee. Here are his stats. He’s the first player that I have gotten truly excited about in this upcoming draft. Here’s more reading on Kazee: San Diego State’s GoAztecs.com publicity on Damontae Kazee, enjoy!

One last photo: don’t try jumping over CB Damontae Kazee!

A quick question before I go: if you’re Andy Reid, do you just go ahead and prepare for one team over the other?
