I am very cautious in predicting a Super Bowl win for the Kansas City Chiefs who face the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII. Still, the Chiefs rise to new levels in the playoffs and somehow have kept winning especially this year and rising to the occasion characterizes this rendition of the team. I will predict a KC win. After all we have Mahomes, Kelce, Sneed, McDuffie, Rice and Jones to mention just a few of our top players. I am going to ride with these guys all the way to the final whistle. Its tough to predict a score. I’m betting Mahomes ascends and the defense to remain stout. After all, I am a Chiefs nut.

Baltimore led the league in rushing this season with 541 attempts while putting up a league best 2,661 yards in the process. In the divisional round, they had taken complete control of the clock against Houston, busting out 229 yards on the ground on 42 attempts. So, why on God’s green earth did the Ravens all but abandoned the run in the AFCCG against the Chiefs? The Ravens rushed the ball a mere 16 times for 81 yards, allowing the Chiefs to dominate the Time of Possession. The answer is Steve Spagnuolo and his ever evolving ability to make the proper adjustments. I have been tough on Spags in the past. Tough on him taking too long to make defensive adjustments… but I will be the first to admit he has done a phenomenal job of preparing the Chiefs defense in this post season as they have faced 3 different teams with 3 different offensive strategies and kept all 3 contained for the most part. The 49ers will not make the same mistake as the Ravens. I’m sure Steve Wilks — the SF DC — has done his homework and is quite aware the Chiefs are in the top 5 in passing defense and have looked less impressive, being in the bottom half at stopping the run. The Chiefs defense will see a very healthy dose of Christian McCaffrey on Super Bowl Sunday and my best guess is Spags knows that too. I have the utmost faith the Chiefs pass rush will be all over Purdy, limiting the 49ers passing game in the process. That said…. contain Christian McCaffrey and keep that man out of the Red Zone and you will celebrate your 3rd Super Bowl victory in 4 years.
Go Chiefs!

This is the second time Patrick Mahomes has had a chance to win back-to-back Super Bowls. The first time was during the 2020 season in a game most Chiefs fans would rather forget. The Chiefs were operating with a decimated offensive line and got walloped by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31-9 in SB LV held in Miami. This time, I think Mahomes is determined and will do whatever it takes to win. If the Chiefs defeat the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday it would put the team in rarified air; only the Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas Cowboys & New England Patriots have won back-to-back SBs. Consecutive SB wins for the Chiefs would also cement Mahomes’ legacy as one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game. I’m superstitious so I never predict the scores of Chiefs games. I do, however, always believe that the Chiefs will win, so I’m expecting that Lombardi trophy to come back with the team Sunday night and make a home right here in Kansas City.

The CHIEFS enter the Super Bowl with a chance to become the first repeat champion since the New England Patriots accomplished the feat in XXXVIII and XXXIX. That pair, interestingly enough, included a win over the Eagles. Securing the elusive back-to-back requires the CHIEFS to win once again as an underdog. San Francisco has owned much of the season’s “best team” narrative, while the CHIEFS spent it getting widely panned by national media. All Super Bowl stakes are high, but this one has some added juice. On the NFC side we have the Kyle Shanahan offense and Mr. Irrelevant, Brock Purdy, looking to silence doubters once and for all. Patrick Mahomes represents the AFC with his down season the CHIEFS are looking to silence doubters for the 50-something time. The 49ers will certainly score points, and I expect Christian McCaffrey to find the end zone in the first half. Spags’ D has been lights out for months, and Patrick Mahomes has been that guy for six years. I expect both entities show up strong in the second half as the CHIEFS secure victory as the “home” team in Arrowhead West.

The Chiefs defense, which has been excellent all year, has peaked at just the right time, dominating three of the top offenses in the NFL in the playoffs, with two of those performances coming on the road. The Chiefs offense is coming on as well, having moved the ball extremely well against the Dolphins in the brutal cold, taking another step in Buffalo in a viciously hostile environment, then finishing in Baltimore in another difficult environment against a team touted as one of the NFL’s strongest in years. The Chiefs offense comes into Super Bowl LVIII with an offense that finally fulfills the potential of being every bit as good as the offense that put up 38 on the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII. Mahomes will continue his run of lethal, error-free football. Rashee Rice will be electric, and Kelce will deliver a solid performance. San Francisco will struggle against Spagnuolo’s defense, putting up a late touchdown to make the game look closer than it was.
Chiefs – 28
49ers – 17

I’m feeling cautiously optimistic about the Chiefs chances against the 49ers this time around. With Patrick Mahomes running the Chiefs offense I feel much better than if Brock Purdy was our QB. Also, Travis Kelce is an Alpha Male personality type and so is Mahomes and Reid. It’s amazing that they all have learned to get along. Their counterparts are not Alpha Males in Kyle Shanahan, George Kittle and Brock Purdy. That should give K.C. the advantage they need to take this game over. If Brock Purdy shows that he is more than a “Beta Male” type and shows that he is uprising… things could get sticky. While many are counting on Purdy being a better QB than Jimmy Garoppolo was, I don’t believe he is. Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo should be able to come up with a game plan that will pressure Purdy like he’s never been pressured before and that will essentially be the difference in the game. Maybe I’m being overly optimistic but…
