Charles Omenihu (CO) has had an up and down career.
.
• CO was drafted by the Houston Texans in 2019 in the 5th round
• He played for them for 2 and a half years then was traded to the 49ers
• He had a domestic violence charge, but was not re-signed by the 9ers
• CO, signed by K.C., then given a 6-game NFL suspension in the 2023 season for his prior domestic violence charge, even if it was dropped
• CO injured his ACL in the AFC Championship and had surgery
.
I know that most of those sound like down moments in Charles Omenihu’s career. However he’s had some great moments as well, so here he is as presented by Cole DeRuse of “How Bout Those Chiefs” which he posted last year prior to the 2023 season:

That Omenihu has had an up and down career may be best evidenced by his injury this past year, even though he won a Super Bowl Ring. Yes, DL Charles O. tore his ACL in the Kansas City Chiefs AFC Championship Game vs the Baltimore Ravens and has been rehabbing ever since… and yes, he still won a Super Bowl Ring!

Here’s a picture from his Instagram and the message along with it:

“Surgery was a success. I appreciate all the well wishes and prayers. I’ve been through the dark before and God has always guided me to the light this will be no different. THE JOURNEY BEGINS. Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you” this is the Lord’s declaration “plans for your welfare, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

Plus, the things that pundits are saying about him and his eventual comeback… are questionable. Adam LaRose of profootballrumors.com has an article called, “Chiefs DE Charles Omenihu Addresses ACL Rehab” and he says in it:
.
“Omenihu has one year remaining on his current deal, and he is owed $7.4MM this season. The former fifth-rounder expressed a desire for an extension (one which would be accompanied by a raise) in February, but given his injury status it would come as a surprise if one were to be worked out before he returns to action… Omenihu will represent a notable addition to that group [Karlaftis, FAU, BJ Thompson] once he is back in the fold, and his play will go a long way in determining his earning power on a new Chiefs accord or a free agent deal.”
.
Does, Charles Omenihu deserve a new deal? I think so, but some may not agree:
.
.
.
.
Omenihu deserves a new contract now. Period.
If he wants one — which he does — why not give him a new deal now? OvertheCap.com says the Chiefs currently have $15,425,109 in cap space. Why not give Omenihu a large raise now?
Omenihu is a large man at 6-foot-5 and 280 lbs.. Here’s what he did in 2023: 11 games and 7 sacks, along with 28 combo tackles. ELEVEN GAMES!!! CO has had 18.5 sacks in his first 5 years in the NFL. Let’s tie him up and keep him in K.C. for many more years. Here are pictures and videos of his recovery process:

Even with Omenihu’s rehab schedule, he still has time for others:

You have to love the idea that the esteemed Derrick Johnson was helping out at Charles Omenihu’s kids’ camp. I guess it’s not all that surprising since they both went to the University of Texas and both play defense. Last Summer Charles Omenihu was interviewed and in the process said that Andy Reid’s Training Camp was so hard that the games were not as hard as the practices. I love the fact that CO loved it!:

Like many, I can’t wait to see Charles Omenihu back in action. Not only does Omenihu make Chris Jones better but Chris Jones will make Charles Omenihu better. While many expect Omenihu to return at mid-season, I think his possible return date could coincide with the Week-6 Bye Week and that he could be ready to go by then. That means CO could be ready to roll by the time the Chiefs face the 49ers in Week 7 and the Raiders in Week 8. Both are AWAY games. Here’s Cole DeRuse of “How Bout Those Chiefs” summing up the Charles Omenihu situation, recently (0:36):

.
Now, let me be perfectly clear, I’m in favor of the Chiefs holding Charles Omenihu back if they think he has even a slight chance of re-injuring his ACL. Beyond that, I hope he’s back at 110%. In other words, better than he was before his surgery.
David Bell has been touting Omenihu’s return earlier than we think, and even though he and I have a general rule that players who have been out (especially because of a surgery) don’t produce at a high level until a whole year has passed by, Omenihu could surprise us and make his presence felt much earlier than expected.
What do you think?
