I know that Christmas is still a few days away, but if I was a kid again, I’d be shaking and rattling and rolling all the gifts under the tree in order to tell if I can guess what’s in each wrapped present. Even if it’s not mine. I’m sure that many of you have either done the same or know a child that’s doing that right now. My advice: let em have their fun. Let’s also unwrap a few of the early Christmas gifts for the Chiefs this season.
.
A Lump of Coal
You naughty girls and boys, you know you shouldn’t be shaking the gifts under the Christmas tree. However, since you’re here giving these gifts a good “what-for” do you recall 9 years ago when KCUR wrote a piece by Greg Echlin called: “Kansas City Chiefs Greet December Like A Lump Of Coal” in which he said:
.
“The Denver Broncos beat the Chiefs 29-16 Sunday night under frigid conditions at Arrowhead Stadium. That sent the Chiefs to their second straight loss and dropped their overall record to 7-5. The slide started with a loss to the previously winless Oakland Raiders, then the impactful news of starting safety Eric Berry being diagnosed with lymphoma.”
.
Well, the Chiefs finished 9-and-7 that year and that was also the last year they lost to the Raiders and Broncos back-to-back. That was also the last year that the Chiefs did not go to the playoffs. Of course, it gives us perspective to recall how great Eric Berry was. I’ll never forget this play he made in Atlanta to save the game:
.
.
Eric Berry was no Lump of Coal, that’s for darn sure!
Fruitcake? Make it Cheesecake
Or is that “ChiefsCake.” I can recall eating some really nasty Fruitcake in my time. However, upon researching Fruitcake, I came across a recipe for Cheesecake. Here it is: “Easy Kansas City Chiefs Football Cake” (6:03):

CJ on Karlaftis
I came across this video of a Chris Jones media event and had to share it with you. Here, CJ is his normal uproarious self.

Pro Bowl Kelce
With the recent barrage of re-tweets for Patrick Mahomes to the Pro Bowl, Travis Kelce may have been a forgotten man. If so, let’s re-tweet this:

If you care to help, please copy and past the above into Twitter to help Travis Kelce become the number one TE vote getter. He deserves that!

Matt McMullen’s 10
The Chiefs beat reporter, Matt McMullen, has put out a piece this week called: “10 Quick Facts About the Chiefs’ Week 15 Victory Over New England” so here they are:
.
Linebacker Willie Gay hauled in
his first interception of the season.

Here it is:

Fifteen different Chiefs have recorded
at least a half sack this season.

Sunday’s game marked a historic
meeting in the history of the NFL.
.
From McMullen’s piece:
.
“The game on Sunday marked the first time in NFL history that the head coaches on either sideline combined for 500+ regular season victories, with each coach having at least 200 wins to their name. The two coaches – Chiefs’ Head Coach Andy Reid (255 wins) and Patriots’ Head Coach Bill Belichick (301 wins) – combined for a whopping 556 regular-season victories entering the contest.”

Rookie wide receiver Rashee Rice
set a franchise record on Sunday.

Tailback Clyde Edwards-Helaire put
together a strong performance.

McMullen’s #6
Tailback Jerick McKinnon threw the
first touchdown pass of his career.
.
McKinnon threw that pass to Rashee Rice near the goal line. Here’s that play (0:33):

McMullen’s #7
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes recorded
another game with 300+ passing yards
and multiple touchdowns.
.
This is from McMullen’s article directly:
.
“Mahomes threw for 305 yards and two touchdowns on Sunday, marking his 37th career game with 300+ yards and multiple scores through the air. The reigning league MVP leads the NFL in that category since 2018 by 13 games, and in the context of his career, Mahomes has hit those statistical marks in a remarkable 39 percent of his starts. Mahomes currently leads the NFL in completions (353) while ranking fourth in passing yards (3,703) and fifth in passing touchdowns (25).”

McMullen’s #8
Cornerback L’Jarius Sneed
continued his outstanding season.
.
L’Jarius Sneed lead all tacklers – for both teams – with 9 total plus two of those were tackles for a loss. He also had two Passes Defensed.
.
McMullen’s #9
The Chiefs locked up an eleventh
consecutive winning season Sunday.
.
.
“Kansas City secured its 11th straight winning season on Sunday, which is the longest active stretch in the NFL and seven seasons ahead of second place. The Miami Dolphins (4) and Buffalo Bills (4, but on the verge of 5) own the next closest active streaks.”

Kansas City can clinch the AFC
West with a victory on Monday.
.
AtoZSports.com has an article called: “Chiefs Can Clinch AFC West in Week 16” in which author Jay Biggerstaff says:
.
“The 27-17 victory gave the Chiefs their eleventh consecutive winning season and put them one step closer to clinching a playoff berth. They’re still in hot pursuit of the No. 1 seed in the AFC and they’re going to need to win out to have a chance at it. They’ll also need some good fortunes when the Ravens and Dolphins play their final three games.”
.
.
Biggerstaff goes on to share:

Landing the AFC #1 Seed
profootballnetwork.com has an article called: “Can the Chiefs Still Land the AFC’s #1 Seed?” in which they say:
.
“Kansas City has grabbed the AFC’s No. 1 seed three times with Mahomes under center (2018, 2020, 2022) and won the Super Bowl twice in those three seasons. This year, Andy Reid’s team might have to play a road game in the playoffs, because their odds of securing the top seed — and the home-field advantage and first-round playoff bye that comes with it — have shrunk significantly over the last two weeks.”

Fab Five: Stayin’ Alive
Just last season the term, “Fab Five” was a common term heard here and there and everywhere, when talking about the Chiefs five defensive back draft choices including: Trent McDuffie, Jaylen Watson, Joshua Williams, Bryan Cook, and Nazeeh Johnson. With Bryan Cook and Nazeeh Johnson on injured reserve, and the other three an active part of the Chiefs plans going into the last three games and then the playoffs, the Chiefs version of the Fab Five is alive and kicking. Bryan Cook (ankle) will be back next season stronger than ever and Nazeeh Johnson (ACL) the same.

WRs Make the O Go
“Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now Prancer and
Vixen! On, Comet! on, Cupid! on, Donner and Blixen!”
.
Let’s hope that more than Rashee Rice can make Santa’s Sleigh take off and take flight. Rice may be this year’s Rudolph… but the Chiefs are going to need much more than him to get it up.

For What It’s Worth
No, I’m not talking about that 1960s tune by Buffalo Springfield, although it was one of the first songs of Steven Still which I learned to play on the guitar, and it is a great song. I’m talking about the total current worth of the Chiefs Franchise as noted by Forbes.
.
.
That’s fairly astounding considering that the Franchise was worth $25K in 1960 when the team came into being under Lamar Hunt. By the way, the Chiefs franchise worth has doubled in the time Patrick Mahomes (in 5 years) has been with the Chiefs, so say the K.C. Star.
