The Kansas City Chief took care of business in Arrowhead Stadium by beating the Jacksonville Jaguars 27-to-17 on Sunday at noon and shortly thereafter, the Buffalo Bills were at Home losing to the Minnesota Vikings 33-to-30 in OT, making the Chiefs the owners of the AFC Conference lead, for now. If the season ended today, K.C. would have the rights to Host throughout the playoffs, plus a first round Bye and if they won their first game, they’d also get to host a fifth consecutive AFC Conference Championship game, the Lama Hunt Trophy game.

The Chiefs didn’t look good to start this game giving up an onside kick right out of the gate. However, the Jags had to punt after 5 plays. However, rookie Isiah Pacheco fumbled the ball away after the Chiefs had marched the ball down the field only to give it away after nine plays. In past years the Chiefs may have lost games like this, but that was not to be today, and after that initial bad start, the game mostly belonged to Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.
The Chiefs Defense
The Chiefs defense was the difference in the first half. In the game. They caused five Punts and two missed field goals, holding the Jags to 7 points in the first half. The Chiefs led at halftime 20 to 7. David Bell pointed out that Trent McDuffie finally gave up a reception in this game but he had 7 tackles and 2 PBUs. Still, he looks like a Pro Bowl CB to me… and he’s playing like one too.
On a day when the offense was turning the ball over three times, the defense was holding the Jags to 75 yards rushing. What that means is that the defense was able to tee-off on the Jags QB whenever he was throwing the ball and they ended up with 5 sacks. 0.5 of those sacks belonged to Carlos Dunlap (which he shared it with Chris Jones).

Dunlap is the 41st player in NFL history to get at least 100 sacks.

The Chiefs Offense
While the Chiefs Special Teams was not playing up to standards in this game, the offense was doing really well. Although the Jags rushing attack was held to 75 yards, the Chiefs were more than doubling up on the Jags and rushing for 155 yards. 7th round pick, Isiah Pacheco took almost all of the snaps at running back and 1st round pick Clyde Edwards-Helaire had none. Pacheco had 82 yards rushing and averaged 5.1 YPC.
“MVS one handed catch is not being talked about enough!“

Kadarius Toney
With Mecole Hardman out of this game many expected Toney to get most of his snaps and that’s pretty much how things went. 2 rushes for 33 yards and 4 catches (on 5 targets) for 57 yards was helpful to the Chiefs cause.

Toney said this after the game:

Toney didn’t want to throw the Giants — the team he was traded from 18 days ago — under the bus, but he also said this after the game:

Comment of the Game
.
Wonder of wonders, miracle of miracles… the Chiefs had zero penalties in this game. The Jags had 5 for 30 yards but this is still low for both teams.

… and you thought I was going to leave out mentioning anything about Patrick Mahomes. Let’s never forget that we are blessed to have a guy like Mahomes around to run the show on the field. He’s amaze-balls! He really is.

Player(s) of the Game
I have to go with both Nick Bolton and Willie Gay. I know, they didn’t have any real standout plays in this game, but they each had 8 tackles and Willie had 6 solo tackles and Nick had 5 solo take downs. Plus, Willie had a sack along with his other stats. They are becoming quite a pair of standout Linebackers for the Chiefs.

Quote of the Game
“Add this to the list of Patrick Mahomes stats that
sound fake but are totally real: Mahomes has
now won 24 CONSECUTIVE games played
in November or December.”

Future Shock
Next week, in Week 11, the Chiefs will travel to Los Angeles to take on the Chargers in a Prime Time Sunday Night Football game on November 20, 2022, at 7:20 CST. This game time was changed a week ago to a Prime Time attraction game.
The 2022 History of SNF
.
Last night, on Sunday Night Football (Week 10), the Los Angeles Chargers lost to the San Francisco 49ers, 22-to-16 and they scored zero points in the second half. The Chargers are now 5-and-4 on the year, and two full games behind the Chiefs, plus the Chiefs already beat LAC so they’re actually three games behind at this point. Consequently, the Chiefs game next week against the Chargers in L.A. will not be for the division lead. In fact, the Chiefs picked up a game on each of the three other teams in the AFC West: it was Colts 25, Raiders 20, and Titans 17, Broncos 10. Now, the AFC West Standings look like this:

.
The AFC West is not the strong Division many thought it would be before the season began. I know I predicted the Chiefs would win vs the Jags 52-to-14, but if the Chiefs Special Teams hadn’t messed up so much in this game, that may well have happened. Oh well, my bad.
Go Chiefs!
