Chiefs: 5 Most Important Stories of the Week

Chiefs: 5 Most Important Stories of the Week – The Kansas City Chiefs have had a busy week even though it’s the middle of June. Let’s take a look at five of the most important stories this week.

Story Five

Touchdownwire.com revealed their Power Rankings. Here’s their top five:

  • 5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  • 4. New Orleans Saints
  • 3. San Francisco 49ers
  • 2. Baltimore Ravens
  • 1. Kansas City Chiefs

Here’s what TouchdownWire said about the Chiefs:

If you thought the Chiefs were content with their first Super Bowl win in 50 years, think again. An offense that was already near-unstoppable when Patrick Mahomes is healthy has been rendered that much closer to perfect with the addition of first-round running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire out of LSU, who perfectly fits Andy Reid’s positional paradigm and will give Mahomes the outlet target he didn’t always have in 2019. And under Steve Spagnuolo for a second season in 2020, a defense that started to put things together at the right time last season could move from league-average to formidable. As much as any defending champ, this Chiefs team has what it takes to be the first repeat Super Bowl winner since the 2003-2004 Patriots.

On the flip side, ProFootball Focus rates the Chiefs roster as the 7th best in the NFL saying that the Chiefs have the best quarterback but have a weakness at cornerback.

Story Four

Seth Keysor of the Athletic offered up a piece called: “What can we expect in Year 2 of Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo’s defense?” [subscription needed] Seth said DE Alex Okafor would be a player to watch in 2020. He also said,

Neither Hitchens nor Wilson, the linebackers who saw by far the most playing time at the position, are particularly quick. Both also lack long speed. The result was a mismatch anytime one of them was asked to play man coverage in space.

The Chiefs were clearly trying to address their issue at linebacker when they drafted Gay, an absurdly talented athlete who likely would have been a first-round pick had he not been suspended his final season in college.

Story 3A, 3B, 3C

The NFL announced that all training camps will start on time. They also announced this week that the Hall of Fame game (which was going to feature the Cowboys and Steelers) will not be played and the usual announcement of new Hall of Famers, will be delayed.

The Chiefs tried to get the league to allow them to hold training camp in St. Joseph but that request was denied. Chiefs camp will be held at their main facility at Arrowhead. Fans are not expected to be allowed into the camp because of health concerns. The NFL will continue to monitor that situation. Right now, things are not looking good.

While the NFL owners met this week to decide issues related to training camps, they also decided this odd little tidbit if the Covid-19 virus continues into the season:

Story Two

ESPN honored Kansas City Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid with a 2020 ESPY:

Story Uno

While the NFLPA was urging players not to practice together as COVID-19 cases surge… Tom Brady was ignoring that and not only holding practice with his teammates but then posting pictures of his workouts online.

I’ve made my position on the Covid-19 virus outbreak clear before, but now that cases are spiking once again, allow me to restate:

Although the information above says, “Older adults…” the most recent trends show many younger people contracting the disease. Stay Home. Stay Safe. Wear a Mask. Please.
