Sure, the Kansas City Chiefs have had their issues this season, but the Las Vegas Raiders season has been worse than a dumpster fire. It’s not only been filled with ‘derisiveness,” but it’s been — to put it in Generation Z terms — a Big Yikes (something that’s really embarrassing, disturbing, or shocking).
Even the fowls of the air know this game is already decided. One of the most recent chapters comes to us from last season when the Raiders bested he Chiefs in Arrowhead when HC Jon Gruden decided to circle Arrowhead with his busses, filled with his players.
A Head Coach: Banished by his own words
The New York Times reported emails Gruden wrote in which he had made homophobic and misogynistic remarks, plus racist statements about he NFL’s union leader. he mid-west values Gruden was raised with in Ohio were long since gone. Values like: a rural sense of community, willingness to help each other out no matter who it is, working harder when your neighbor needed your help… those are all values many in the Kansas City, Missouri area know and understand. Maybe that’s why so many fans feel a sense of betrayal by someone like Jon Gruden, who once was, “one of us.”
I had to re-piece this Mina Kimes tweet back together because the NY Times part had been removed on Twitter, since it was first tweeted by USA Today. However, this is exactly what I wanted to say:
“This is Repulsive. Full stop.”
Raiders Problems Started — Continued? — in July
Marc Badain was the Raiders team president, but resigned abruptly on July 19th. From LVSporsBiz.com:
“Badain resigned. Who saw that coming just weeks before the Raiders’ first season with fans allowed in the stadium, a luxurious venue that Badain spent years working to build? Nobody did. That’s why Badain’s resignation timing came across as unexpected, abrupt, odd and even shocking as training camp starts this week.”
The Tale of the Missing 1st Round CB
CB Damon Arnette was waived by the Raiders just one month ago today, on November 8th. Arnette had been the Raiders first round pick one year ago in the 2020 NFL draft. MercuryNews.com quoted Raiders GM who said:
“There have been a series of bad decisions over the last year or so, but we can’t stand for the video of Damon with a gun threatening to take a life. The content was unacceptable, contrary to our values and our owner Mark Davis has been very clear and very consistent that this is not how we will conduct ourselves in this community. The bottom line, the Raiders will not tolerate this type of behavior.”
Raiders Injuries to Darren Waller
It’s hard to measure just how much the injuries to TE Darren Waller have hurt the Raiders, but I consider him their best offensive player, so you can take it from there. Waller had hurt his knee in week eleven (11) vs the Cowboys and also has an injured oblique, but his knee is not as bad as first thought, and he could end up being available for the game this Sunday.
Trading Away Three Starting OL
This past offseason, I could understand trading away Gabe Jackson and or possibly even Trent Brown, but Rodney Hudson? Hudson was not only one of the league’s best OCs when he was in K.C. his first four (4) seasons, but he has continued to ball out ever since including, three (3) Pro Bowls in six (6) seasons for the Raiders. What is clear is… the Raiders have an offensive line that can’t fight is way out of a trouble. Trouble started by the Raiders themselves. OTH… that may be the hardest kind of trouble to get out of.
A Litany of Losery
After winning their first three (3) games, the Raiders have now lost six (6) out of their last nine (9) games, and four (4) out of their last five (5), on the way to a 6-and-6 overall record. They are also -38 points in differential, and there are only four teams in the AFC who have a worse differential.
None of this should make you feel sorry for the Raiders. After all, they did beat the Chiefs in Arrowhead just one year ago on October 11. I apologize for reminding you. However, I doubt that a win for the Las Vegas Raiders at Arrowhead is in the cards this season. That would be highly, highly unlikely, but that would also be equally… embarrassing, disturbing, or shocking.
