Chiefs: A Pulley’s Mechanical Advantage

Chiefs: A Pulley’s Mechanical Advantage – After rewatching Sunday’s game, at least the 3½ quarters that CBS managed to air, several things come to mind…

The Chiefs Offense

Head Coach Andy Reid’s offense, led by QB Patrick Mahomes, is only going to get better as time goes by, and this should scare the wholly cwap out of the rest of the AFC.

The Jagettes (thanks for the name, Laddie)

The Jaguars came into this game thinking they could shut down the Chiefs offense, and when they figured out they didn’t have a chance, completely lost their cool. In my opinion, Myles Jack should be disqualified for next week’s game also, in addition to some heavy fines. CB Ramsey shouldn’t get off scot-free either. His extracurricular tomfoolery after he tackled Hill out of bounds was uncalled for, as well as involving himself in the Jack debacle. The questionable play started early, on the 3rd play of the game, Sammy Watkins first touchdown reception, Jags number 25, nickelback Hayden, followed Watkins to the back of the end zone and swatted the ball out of Watkins hand, a totally unnecessary action.

The Friday Night Fights, on Sunday

While on the subject of the “altercation”… I would like an explanation from the league as to why the obvious holding on Myles Jack, where he tackled Sammy Watkins during the play, was not enforced. I believe the Chiefs should have had a 1st and goal after all of those shenanigans were sorted out. I understand all of the off-setting stuff and ejection, that happened after the play was over, but the first flag thrown, was thrown while the play was in action, therefore that call should have been enforced, with all of the other garbage off-setting.

More on the Jagettes

By looking into the stands, even at the start of the game, it appears that what few fans the Jags have are quite aware that their team has been overrated all off-season. They have a few good players on defense, but they’re nowhere near as special as they want the NFL world to believe.

Backup Quarterbacks

Most times, when a backup QB enters a game, they put on a good show. This is because the opposing defense hasn’t prepared themselves to face the second teamer. His tendencies are different than what they have practiced for, and sometimes, as was the case Sunday, had never been seen before in a regular season game.

Now, if Gardner Minshew continues to have this kind of success going forward, just maybe, Jacksonville has finally discovered the next Tom Brady, that a lot of teams have been searching for, for the past 18 years.

The Chiefs Have a Defense, Sort of…

The lack of pressure on the opposing QB, was uninspiring. But I wonder, if after Foles went out with an injury, if Reid/Spags dialed down the rush a little. It did seem as if Clark was getting chipped, if not double teamed almost every play. The Chiefs started the game in nickel, with Hitchens and Wilson as our 2 linebackers.

I still can’t say as I am a fan of Hitchens, but Wilson looks like the real deal. He was our best LB Sunday.

Primarily, the Secondary

The secondary is going to take the most time to come together. Three out of the five are new to the team and one of the others (Ward) has limited playing time. I’m thinking that once Claiborne returns after week 4, that he will replace Ward, so it might be mid-season before this group reaches it’s max potential. Thornhill made a lot of plays, he was excellent in run support. He might of missed a few in pass coverage, but without knowing assignments, that’s hard to determine.

Week 2: The Raiders

After defeating the Denver Broncos on Monday night, the Raiders will be thinking that they are a contender. The Chiefs will visit Oakland late Sunday afternoon and this shouldn’t be a big problem for the Chiefs. The offense will hum along, even without Hill, I’m expecting Kelce to have a big day Sunday. The Chiefs will be working extra hard this week on their red zone offense, as they left too many points on the field in Jacksonville. I’m thinking the Chiefs will score at least 45 versus the Raiders.

McCoy’s Jersey… no, not the number

Did anyone else think this was the most ill-fitting Jersey you have seen in decades. It looked like the jersey McCoy was wearing was made for an offensive lineman and had the number 25 slapped on it at the last minute. I don’t know, maybe that’s what McCoy prefers, but I just thought it looked out of place.

I hope everyone has their plans set for Sunday and enjoy the Chiefs victory!
