Chiefs and Dolphins Game, AKA: THE RICE BOWL

Laddie Morse

Yes, when the Miami Dolphins came to play — and lose — to the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday evening, many players on the Chiefs side were responsible for the victory. Many coaches, equipment managers and players. However, that game could also be known as: the RICE BOWL, simply because rookie WR Rashee Rice had perhaps his best game in a Chiefs uniform. While there were many players who helped make this win a possibility, there could be only one Player of the Game, and that was Rashee Rice. Special Thanks to Chiefs Kingdom Live who I believe first coined the phrase, “Rice Bowl.”

Chiefs Concerns had a great take on Rice (2:05):

As I outlined in yesterday’s article, Rice was the player of the game.

Here are some of the plays that Rashee Rice made in this game which were notable (0:09, 0:12, and 0:13):

Plus, Rice also had the first TD on the ChIefs first drive (0:10):

Andy Reid had this to say about Rice after the game (0:25):

Then, Rice had this to say about Reid and his icy mustache (0:18):

Yes, this was the coldest game ever played in Arrowhead Stadium, but it was only the 4th coldest game ever. The coldest game in NFL history? That would be the Ice Bowl in 1967 between the Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers in Lambeau Field when the game time temp was -13 below. That’s 13 degrees below zero before wind chill and by the way, the wind chill on that day was -48 degrees… that degrees BELOW zero. I remember watching that game from the comfort of my parents home but you could feel the cold coming through the black and white screen they had. Fortunately, I was sitting by the fire all toasty roasty.
