Chiefs: ArrowheadOne Complaint Department – Let’s just get it out of the way already. Log your complaints here in response to this article. I know that there are complaints out there. Okay. It’s my piece, and I will start it out creating my own list and others can add their thoughts to those in this list.
Dear Uncle “Chief” of the ArrowheadOne Chiefs Complaint Department:
No passes to CEH in the game? HC Andy Reid didn’t call one play intending to pass the ball to Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Why not for heaven’s sake? Getting that first catch out of the way would have gone a long way towards making sure he was comfortable catching passes in a game at the NFL level? Andy Reid… what’s the matter with you?
Clyde suffered because you choose to run it too much too early? Early in the game, you and OC Eric Beiniemy ran Clyde inside the tackles and he was stopped 3 times for little or no gain. I don’t understand why the play-calling didn’t mix it up early on so the defense couldn’t look for easy a run stop. Sure, sure, the first drive should have been a TD catch by Demarcus, but that leads me to the my next complaint about when you get close to the goal line. Andy and Eric… what’s the matter with y’all?
Poor Red Zone execution? There, we were down in the red zone and didn’t call a play that worked, so we came away empty. Plus I recall CEH spinning his way directly into a huge defensive tree stump. Not good. Reid and Bieniemy… what in world were you thinking?
Willie Gay, Jr. had no defensive snaps? Seriously? From what I could see, Hitch was ineffective in stopping the run, or if he made a tackle it was five yards or more into our end of the business. I also didn’t see much at all from the other staring linebacker: Damien Williams. I mean, come on. Sure, you put O’Daniel in for what, about 1/7th of the snaps on defense. He only got 3 tackles and a sack. What in the world is going on Steve Spagnuolo? Cat got your tongue? Those two players should have been on the field a bunch more and one didn’t have any snaps at all. This makes no sense to me at all. I can see what is going on and I have no doubt that DOD can get to right place, he has the football IQ needed to know where the play is going, how to slip blocks and make a play. Maybe you guys need to watch more film. I have no doubt in my mind that Willie Gay is going to be a top linebacker. Brett Veach ensured that the Chiefs made that selection in the 2nd round. In doing so, he got a player that dropped on the “must draft chart” because of non-football events at college. He is bright, he plays well, he has the speed, and along with O’Daniel’s speed too, they can both play sideline-to-sideline. Not only that, Gay gets to ball and makes plays. His tape is replete with making the reads quickly. He makes defensive plays on pass defense. So, all right, why Spags, why, are these two players along with the Einstein of the defensive front end, Ben Niemann not your primary go-to Linebackers?
I understand breaking in the new guys, but you do have the greatest passer in the game, a constant threat to air it out and score. Why were you holding Patrick Mahomes back? Why, Mr. Reid, did you not score 45 or 50 points?
Why did you take his foot of the pedal and play to run out the clock? This makes me totally fume when I see it. What’s the point if your starters are still on the field? Also, Andy and Steve, IF YOU ARE GOING TO TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE PEDAL, THEN AT THE SAME TIME YOU SHOULD THEN HAVE PUT WILLIE GAY IN THE GAME ALONGSIDE DORIAN O’DANIEL!
This is the first time since Patrick Mahomes… was the Chiefs quarterback that the offense had more rushing attempts than passing attempts? 34-to-32. What the hey? Andy? I know you like cheeseburgers with vanilla shakes, but come on man!
The Net Passing game? This was the best you could do Andy? 203 aerial measly yards? With all the tools available to Patrick Mahomes, and he only threw the ball 32 times for less than 204 yards? I mean, come on Man? Well, okay, Patrick’s the man and he had 3 TDs for the night… but he should have had 5! You remember the old saying about Michael Jordan? “Who’s the only person to hold MJ to less that 20 points per game? DEAN SMITH.” So, I hope you’re not holding PMII back! How is Mahomes going to set the next record if you stymie the 4th quarter and don’t keep the offense rolling?
The betting line was fouled up with what you did a number on me. I had a straight up bet that the Chiefs would score 44 or more and you lost me that pair of saw bucks. I hold you responsible for the Mr. Big Red fat belly.
Deshaun Watson is by far under rated. However, letting him get a couple of garbage scores late in the game maybe wasn’t a good idea though. When the Texans get rid of their GM — and consequently, their Head Coach — and they put a couple more people around Watson to do what he will do, the Texans are going to be a big threat to the Chiefs potential dominance in the AFC. We don’t throw softballs to the opposition — unless you are the US Press — oops. Erase, erase. The only real reporting being done here, is about football.
If I have not covered all of the complaints it’s because I ran out of gray matter and you will have to wait until a week from Monday. I am sure I will find a way to moan about things. Oh. By the way, thanks for the 34-20 Week One victory. Put that one in the book!
