With the 2024 NFL Draft upon us, starting at 9:00 PM CDT tomorrow, the Kansas City Chiefs may not end up picking until way after 11:00 PM. That is… if they end up picking at all. I say that because there is the distinct possibility that they will end up trading down — and out of the first round with the idea of gaining more picks — and if they do that, they won’t be picking in the first round at all. That also means, they won’t be picking on day one (night one) either. Each Draft event can be seen on ABC and ESPN.

In any event, here are the predictions of the current ArrowheadOne writers for the 32nd pick, as is.

WR, Adonai Mitchell. As almost everyone knows, by now, I think WR will be Pick One. There is a bevy of ‘WRs in this draft. Because I believe that all 3 great LOT players will be drafted before the Chiefs make their selection, before pick #32, the Chiefs will draft the best available WR with pick #32 instead. I think that will be WR, Adonai Mitchell, WR, UT. As far as #2 goes… I think it could be OT, Patrick Paul of U of H. He’s my second choice.

My prediction is WR, Ladd McConkey. Chiefs need a wide receiver who gets open, which is reported to be McConkey’s strong suit. McConkey is versatile, and draft pundits say that McConkey is among the most likely among rookie wide receivers to be able to hit the ground running in a pro offense. Given the likely absence of Rashee Rice for an undetermined number of games, and the push for a three-peat, the Chiefs need a receiver to take up the slack. McConkey would also help Veach get off of the wide receiver treadmill, giving the Chiefs a steady young receiver for years to come.

I think the Chiefs pick OT, Tyler Guyton with the 32nd pick and if he isn’t available, they go with WR, Brian Thomas Jr., if he has been picked up then they go WR Adonai Mitchell and then if he is off the board also, they go with WR, Troy Franklin or WR, Ladd McConkey… in that order. But hey… if CB, Kool-Aid McKinstry is still on the board… well, then all bets are off!
While the majority of the Armchair QB Blogosphere seems to be leaning towards the Chiefs going WR in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, I am not so sure. I find myself leaning towards the belief that the Chiefs will go OT with the 32nd pick. That said, what I think might happen is Veach does a condensed version of Best Player Available –> meaning, he goes BPA at a few selected positions of need… mainly OT and WR, which I think most people would agree are the Chiefs two most glaring needs. If a guy like Tyler Guyton is still available at #32, and that is a possibility, even if it is a remote possibility, I think Veach pulls the trigger on that one. OT, Jordan Morgan will most likely be available still at #32, but I don’t know if Veach would see him as first round material, and rightly so. However, Guyton on the other hand, with some guidance from Andy Heck — who could help break him of some bad habits — is Day 1 material. If all the top tier OTs are gone, Veach goes best WR available, the consensus seems to be pointing at WR, Xavier Worthy, but eh, I am just not impressed. I can think of several WR’s that will most likely still be on the board at #32 that I personally would pick over WR, Xavier Worthy. So, grab some popcorn and let’s get ready for the most exciting NFL event to take place this offseason.
BOOYA! Go Chiefs!

OT, Tyler Guyton. Without looking, I can guess that most teams will be selecting an offensive player in round one. Why the majority of the picks in the first round will be “offensive” in nature is beyond me, especially since the Chiefs just won the Super Bowl mostly because of their defense, which played such a strong role in their SB LVIII victory. I have thought that the reason so many picks are on offense is that the league is trying to offset the defensive efforts of the Champion… which of course, is the Kansas City Chiefs (BIG SMILE)! I have two predictions: one is, if it’s a WR at pick #32, it could be WR, Ladd McConkey and the other is, if pick #32 is an OL, it could be OT, Tyler Guyton out of OU.
